I am in college and work and I am gone for a good portion of the day and I feel so bad I have to leave sophia alone all day long. Do you think she is ok there by herself? I always feel like she is going to hate me or get depressed or something! What do you all think?

Cats sleep a lot, so she probably just sleeps while you are gone. I have multiple cats, so mine have never spent a moment alone. In fact, Festus likes to hide in the closet...I think it is so she can spend a little time alone!

She has plenty of water and food and I try and leave toys all over my apartment. Everytime I come home though she hears me walk up the steps I guess and is waiting at the door and can barely contain how happy she is to see me! I just hope she doesn't end up getting mad at me! But hopefully she is just sleeping all day!

Yup she'll be fine. Cats do sleep alot, and they are pretty independant. I'm sure Trout sleeps all day while I'm at work cuz when I get home, she stretches for a few minutes.

I have 2 cats, and I worry about the same thing. I think they sleep most of the day and MAYBE play with one another. I know they drag my clothes all over the house if I don't put them in drawers.

Give your angel a hug for me.

I feel bad if I'm not home after work- like I went shopping or to a Weight Watcher's meeting (new thing...). Rocky I think misses me. Though like others said, I'm sure they sleep a lot. I was home sick a few weeks ago and I swear that they didn't get off the couch more than me!

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I do feel bad, and rush right home after work to be with her. I don't want her to be a loner and not crave companionship. But I know she is entertained while I'm gone cause I put all the toys in the basket when I leave for work, and when I come home, they're always everywhere!!!
I wish I had a kitty-cam to watch her while I was at work!

My little one spents quite some time alone as i am gone for half of the day,but she has food, water and toys but probably just sleeps a lot in lack of ocupation.Afterall, cats sleep for half of their lives or so.

I feel a little bad, but they've got each other, in addition to about 10 million toys, food, a waterfountain and several comfy beds and hidey holes (as well as a birdfeeder to keep an eye on!)

I worry about mine also when I leave. I adopted a companion cat for my resident cat about two months ago, just for that reason. Before adopting a second cat, and sometimes still, mine would wait by the window watching for me. Once she spotted me, she would jump up and greet me at the door, wiggling all over. I still hate it when I have to do something after work, because I worry she is sitting there waiting by the window. But like everyone said, they all probably sleep most of the time we away and as long as they have their toys, food and water, they are fine.

I honestly do. I feel bad to leave my kitten alone even for a short time, but she is only 6 weeks old though. I think that your cat is ok and most likely would rest throughout the day and is happy to greet you. I wouldn't worry too much. Cats are pretty independent, as already stated.

I don't feel so bad anymore because I have five cats now and I always find havoc when I come home so obviously they had fun.

I used to come home and check on my cats several times a day because one of my cats was stolen two years ago (by my BIL's ex-girlfriend). However she is moving away this summer

Im gone most days for 12-15 hrs at a time due to work, and once I get home Barkley is the first one to greet me with his fuses
almost like he's saying "mommy where have you been all day"!! Petunia on the other hand will come out of wherever she has been napping most of the day and stretch like she's been working hard the whole time I've been gone!!

If you can afford to consider getting Sophie a playmate. Before I got Petunia, Barkley was my only cat for about 2 months and he didnt appear depressed or anything but once she came into the house he went hog wild!!

I don't feel bad when I'm at work during the day (although I do miss them) as I know they'll be sleeping, looking out of the window or generally amusing themselves and they have each other for company. I do feel bad sometimes if I'm late home from work as Jaffa knows my routine and I just know he'll be sitting in the kitchen window looking out and waiting for me to come home.

I feel bad too and I have two babies. Back when our life was normal (I posted a thread to explain) I knew they are ok, but when I do get home they acted like I was gone a life time and won't leave my side. I am sure they miss us all, but the fact they are happy cats has to mean something.

Just give the little one extra luv when your home.
