My foster kittens are going to go up for adoption probably this weekend. How do you guys let go of these little darlings and let them leave. I think this is going to be a rough weekend.

And while you're doing that, think of all of the homes you have made happier by raising loving healthy kittens. It is people like you that I owe my Lucy. Her mother was a stray who was saved by one of techs at our vet. She could have been born outside and condemned to a life of litter after litter. Instead she brings us joy. And your kittens will do the same to others.

You do it because if you didn't you would quickly move from the realm of foster mom to collector, and you don't even want to go there. Know that you did a good job, helped raise healthy kittens and be thankful there is a home for them to go to- because so many others get euthanized

Thanks guys. you're all right...and mentally i know that. I'm just going to miss them, and i have to just hope they find the right homes. Then i can switch my thoughts over to trying to socialize momma cat so maybe she has a future being adopted.

I don't think you are a good foster Mom unless you love the little ones you are caring for. Of course it would be lovely to keep just one...but as Hissy said, they add up quickly. (I'm struggling with my current foster, Sarabi...it would be so easy to just keep her...)

It does hurt some to say good-bye, but it is also a blessing to pass such love and joy on to others. And it opens up space in your home for new fosters. I don't know if it gets easier or harder to say good-bye. But it is definitely worth it to foster, and get to know these sweeties. And to know that you are providing a good start for them. And probably saving their lives!

You can do it! (The ice cream DOES sound like it will help, too!)

I wouldn't have my Cindy and Fawn if it weren't for people like you. Thank you from all the people whose wonderful little furpeople would never have made it without you.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I wish I could do it, foster a pregnant momma cat, and I would if we had more room. I would love it, as I grew up with TONS of kittens. And I can imagine how hard it would be to give up your "babies", but look at what an awesome experience you got to be a part of!!! The miracle of birth! Nothing is more beautiful than that!

You just remember that because of your love and help, these kittens are going to have a wonderful life that they wouldn't have had without you.

And you're going to go out, have a margarita, and enjoy some quiet time with your resident furbabies

Also, you can PM me if you want. I am an adoption counselor for a fairly large no-kill rescue in Chicago, IL. I don't, however, do private adoptions out of my home. We have a pretty innovative adoption process and policy, though, and it would be easy to use some of the things we do in private adoptions
Just thought I'd let you know of an additional resource, although I'm sure the info you get from Renny will be fantastic.
