My zoe is 6 weeks into her pregnancy. It is now officially noticeable that she's pregnant, her belly is not too big but it shows.

As you all know she's a Russian blue and this is her first pregnancy.

I find myself constantly occupied with the "how many" question and so I wanted to ask you guys (Experienced as you all are...) some questions:

1. Do you guys have methods of estimating the amount of babies while your cat is pregnant? What size are the kittens in the 6th week? I know it changes from breed to breed and I also know the amount of babies effects the size in which they are born but I guess there should be some kind of minimum size...

2. Do you feel her belly in order to feel the babies? (Not for counting but just for feeling the babies and actually know that they are there lol)

3. Other than kitten food, what kind of meals do you make for your pregnant cats? I wonder if I should make any for her..

That's about all, other than that everything's fine and Zoe and Kenzo are very excited about their first litter

I've been fooled so many times of how many they are carrying that I've given up. I don't believe in x-raying unless its an emergency. RB's have smaller litters - usually no more then 4. So be patient and don't worry about how many she will have. Just be ready when she has them.

My one rex only had one kitten her last litter and I thought it was more there - that's why I don't bother to figure it out

I have to agree with GoldenKitty - with my Reecie, I checked with her breeder as to the number in her litter and she said 3...my vet said there was 3 and I thought there was 3. 5 came out but only 3 survived...the moral is, don't count your kittens before they pop...

All you can do is guess. Some breeders say that each kitten (with placenta and stuff) weighs about half a pound in week 7-8.

I guess on the size and have been right a few times and I've been wrong a few times. I've seen females with huge tummies just giving birth to one kitten.

Twinsen--- do you have any pictures? My cat is 6 weeks (well got out 6 weeks ago but returned home 5 weeks ago so anywhere from 5-6 weeks but thinking close to 6) and is really tiny and sometimes I look and really wonder others she shows. just wondering how your baby was. I have some pictures of Angel under the picture forum titled "my pregnant? girl" if you want to see. I am always just interested in how big other peoples preg. cats are, then how many they have. so will be interesting to see how many your baby has since she is due about a week before my girl.

the one from the top you can barely tell but the other once I think she looks pretty good size. Angel goes back and forth on how she looks from all angles. we have ANOTHER vet appt tomorrow to hopefully have the vet feel and be sure she is preg. and it isn't a false preg..... LOL

stare at her belly when shes laying flat on her side. You should be able to see movement by now. You can tell kitten movement from regular breathing.
By the way-I have always guessed right on how many kittens i'll have in each litter. It's really hard to describe my method but it involves watching closely the movement of the kittens and also feeling them. I count one side first and wait till she lays on the other side and count the other side. I have not been wrong even once (yet). Im sure i'll guess wrong eventually and maybe it's a coincidence.
I can also easily tell when my cats are in labor by watching for contractions.
