Hi my 5 kittens are 5 1/2 weeks old fully liter trained. The problem is I have to change all 3 liter boxes every day! The kittens seem to pee a lot. Then it starts to get a odor by the end of the day. What kind of liter should I use to last longer and control the smell? Do I need to add more boxes?

Keeping the boxes cleaned and washed daily is really the only way to keep the odor down with that many kittens using them so frequently. I have tried most all of the "premium" brands of litter and found regular clay litter to be the least-expensive litter out there for kittens. Since you must change it frequently, at least you can save a little money while doing it.

I like to add baking powder EVERY time I clean the litter boxes. I sprinkle a layer on the bottom of the box and mix it into the litter to sort of "refresh" it. I buy the big bag at BJ's and it really helps- I have 4 boxes and 9 cats. We clean everything every other day, but two of the boxes are automated so that helps.
