And Newfostermom, I really wish you all the luck in the world...a kitten this young (who has already proven to be weaker than his/her siblings) who is starting to go downhill can be saved depending on what is wrong...but please, please, please be prepared to lose this one, if no one is able to help. And please, please, please, don't beat yourself up about it...sometimes kittens die unexplainably, and it will not be your fault if this happens. All I am saying, is prepare for the worst, and if the worst doesn't happen, you will be very relieved.

I am wondering about the 2 nipples that have not been working...mastitis maybe? I just don't have any answers for you, but your vet might. Don't be surprised if he/she needs to see Patches, and the other kittens as well.
Did you see my other post? I'm feeling so torn.....I just dont want ot ge spend 90.00 and probaly much more than that if she is likely to die anyway...
as I said...I have just spent 400.00 saving Patches life...

Momofthreerugrats....I can tell such a difference from those who post in other areas of the country..as I say..I'm lucky to get a call back...
Im so sad....I feel guilty that I cannot afford to spend alot of money on this kitten....Had I not just went into debt 400.00 for Patches...90.00 would not be an issue...but I cant just keep spending that kind of money.....90.00 is just to see her.... I'm sure lots more if they actually do anything..if I can hold out till the morning...she can be seen at a regular vet... I dont really even know how sick she is....maybe she's just cold? Mayne KARO syrup will help?

Thank you thank you! Im starting it now!!

an ice cube in Iowa...
Oh, honey! Follow your heart then. Maybe you could set up a payment arrangement. It would be a life worth fighting for, wouldn't it? Then you could know that you did all you could for the kitten, even if the outcome isn't good.

Are you leaving soon, or are you going to wait it out for a bit? Or will they make a housecall out to you?

Remember, a cold kitten will not nurse on ANYTHING, and the kitten needs to be warmed before trying anything. Another idea would be to make some homemade Pedialyte solution, and administering it via eye dropper, once you're sure the kitten is warm.

Here's the recipe, and I'm sure you have all of the above on hand, so give it a try:

Home-made Pedialyte
1 cup water (boiled then cooled)
Small pinch of baking soda
Small pinch of Salt
2 teaspoons of sugar
Mix all ingredients well. Make sure the mixture has been slightly warmed before feeding to your kitten. The mixture will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Hang in there gal, you have done all you could. It is unfortunate that some foster programs don't have a vet on call or the money to hand out to the families who are involved in such traumatic times.

I will pray that he will either recover quick or get his wings without much suffering-

Just don't let this destroy your good intentions. There are not many folk who can do what you do.

The poor little thing. A mother cat will sit on a baby and smother it if she thinks that something is wrong with it and that it is not going to survive. I have been warned about this, and to watch for it. Good luck with the little one, prayers for him/her.

I'll try it if I can get her to revive enough.....she was pretty limp there for awhile
...she has moved her limbs a little in the last few minutes, so I'm hoping that means the heat might be helping....thank you everyone...having support on sites like this is immeasurably uplifting....thanks......

You are welcome, I am hoping the rice heaters work. They get cold so quickly when they aren't with mom or the littermates, once they start slipping into the cold you have to bring them back gently-

I'm soo sorry to hear that. I just came across this thread a minute ago. Sometimes they just don't make it and the momma kitty probably knew something was wrong with the kitten....that's what usually happens when you find the mom laying on the kitten. I applaud you and support you for exhausting all of the options you had to take care of your kittens and the momma. The momma and the other kitties are lucky to have you caring for them. Also, don't feel bad about not taking her to the vet...i don't think there could have been much the vet would have been able to do for it at that point...at least now the little kitten is in no more pain and is happy now. Keep your chin up- you did a wonderful job. If there's anything else you need, please let me know. i'm not sure how to cancel a thread, but i'm sure one of the other members could help you. I hope your night gets better....you're and your other kitties are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sometimes no matter how much money you have, or how much you want a kitten to survive, it just isn't meant to be. I don't know about your emergency vet, but unless they are knowledgeable about newborn kittens, they may not have been much help anyhow. And sometimes no amount of knowledge or skill will keep a little one going.

I am very sorry for your loss. I have never had to experience that as you have...I always came home to one already gone. At least you are sure you tried all the little tips like Karo syrup and keeping baby warm.

Rest in peace, little angel.
Every beat of your heart was precious. During your short time here, you were truly loved. Now you can go play happily over the bridge, never to know a moments sorrow. Someday your Meowmie will come join you.
