Today is Memorial day here in the US and while we take time to remember those that have fallen in war to protect us
, I also want to thank all of those families who have members stationed in the conflicted areas. You also must sacrifice so much and I want to acknowledge and honor that sacrifice.

Thanks to all active duty members, and their families. Also for those that served in the past.

It was very heartwarming at the Memorial Day Parade today, as the veterans went by (in antique cars, mostly!), the crowd applauded.

Thanks for all you do!

It is like Remembrance day. It began with honoring the dead in the US Civil war and was officially proclaimed in 1868 by General John Logan as a day of honor. After WWI, it became a day of remembrance for all war veterans, not just those of the US Civil war. It became a Federal holiday in 1971.

Here is a history of the day.

We had a special church service to honor them. My husband worked for weeks on a Power Point presentation, which was a slideshow of pictures, dates of service, etc. to be shown on the wall. Our singers sang at least one verse of each military anthem and each branch of the service was asked to stand and be recognized when they heard theirs. It was wonderful and many tears were shed.
