It was 95 degrees here yesterday and our AC broke. Today it's not supposed to be any cooler and it will be humid as ever. My mommy cat is panting and is clearly hot so I let her sit in the grass for a while. Should I be worried about the 2 babies? I held them this morning and they were pretty warm...not sure if it was because mom had just been with them or if it was because of the weather. What would you suggest?

Is there any way you can set a fan in the kitten room, not blowing on the kittens, but just to move the air around? And maybe a few ice cubes in Momma's water.

I wouldn't take a new Mom cat outside...she may be going into heat!

My house is on a cement slab...when it gets really hot, I move a heavy piece of furniture, and underneath it is cooler...my dog likes to lay on the cool spot! I also have some of those ice packs in my freezer...sometimes I lay a towel over one and set it on the floor for the kitties. Anything like that to give them a chance to cool off. (Don't overchill the kittens...offer it to Mom, and she will bring the kittens to the cool spot if needed.)

Well when I let DioGee outside, we're out there with her and she is on a harnessed leash. Even though she came back in 20 minute incriments when she DID escape, I still felt safer and more relaxed knowing that she was outside like she wanted to be after I bought her a harness and a leash. I'll try what you mentioned about the ice cubes. I have a fan but it's a window fan, not sure it's doing much though
.
I'll just keep an eye on them. Maybe I will bring them to the cooler room for a few minutes at a time. I might just move the whole crew into my closet on the floor since mommy likes it there too.

I do that, too (no A/C). Can you make sure they're in the coolest room in the house/apartment? I set up a bed for Jamie in the cellar when it's really hot, and make sure the shutters are closed during the afternoon.
