Hi

I'm Sam, I have a cat, Cassie who is just over a year old and very very pregnant. If I have my dates right she concieved on the 28th March, maybe just before. My problem is I am not sure what to do about her nesting, she doesn't seem to be settling in any one place. We have 4 year old twin boys who as I'm sure you could imagine are not exactly quiet, we have explained to them what is happening, but to no avail.......The only place we have that virtually guarentees no interupptions is our porch which we have kitted out with nesting box etc.......Cass is happy to stay in there overnight but not during the day......What should I do???? Can anybody help please!!

Thanks

Sam x

Do you have more then 1 bathroom? Bathrooms are often good safe quiet spots, or YOUR bedroom with the door shut.

Honestly, when she;s ready she'll find someplace quiet and dark and go for it. If you still have any baby gates you could also baby gate her in an area- and effectively baby gate the boys out.

Good luck!

Unfortunately we don't have 2 bathrooms, and I can't have her in the bedrooms, as Cass sets off my asthma over night.......but I can't live without a cat as I love them. We have tried the babygate idea but found she was getting really stressed and the boys kept trying to open it......I am really at a loss, I know she is due soon and she has got very quiet and doesn't mind the boys stroking her at the mo......normally she is off like a shot iff they come near lol so she must be close........

Hmm, well boys are VERY different from girls but...my cat just had her babies 3 days ago, and the first place she went (had them under the house and she moved them indoors) was my 4yr. olds closet. I gave Holly the talk and she doesn't mess with momma cat and kittens. The momma cat will come out though and get on Hollys bed for some lovin. I'll let her look at them when momma cat is elsewhere (eating, catching a break). Luckily with this momma cat she has been very dependant on us and welcomes us petting her while feeding the babies, she let me pet the babies and such. Even cleaned out the closet and she still has kept them there.

My other cat had her kittens under the porch where her momma had her. She is very independant and we have yet to coax her indoors. Infact, the only time we see her is when she comes out to eat. Still not sure yet how many she has(I'm scared!!!! Plus hubby doesnt get home till night from work).

So basically, you never know what is going to happen till it happens. But good luck!!

Sam...welcome to TCS....if your porch is not enclosed..I would not recommend allowing her to go outdoors because as soon as she has her kittens, she can become pregnant again which is truly not ideal. I understand that you have no "perfect place"...but better for her to have her kittens indoors than on your porch (unless it is enclosed). Would you be able to get a dog crate and keep mom inside the dog crate with food and litter??

If at all possible...it is preferable to not even allow your cat to have access outdoors while pregnant. There are lots of dangers outdoors and a cat can become pregnant again very soon after giving birth.

Somewhere on here I saw that if ya take a table and put a big blanket over it to cover the whole thing to the floor they can nest in there and feel safe....

Thanks for all the advice, after talking to dh we have decided to close her in the porch until after the birth which I think by her dates should be soon. The porch is a room in itself and fits her nesting box , food and litter in easily, we can lock it from the inside so my boys can't interfere to much, hope fully she will get the privacy she needs.

She is getting really clingy and is loving her cuddles at the moment so fingers crossed it won't be long.
