My downstairs neighbor, who just returned from Italy, brought me beautiful little carved statue of St. Clare of Assisi, for whom my sweet kitty is named!
I visited Assisi a couple of years ago and heard the legend of St. Clare and her cat. For many years of her later life, Saint Clare was very sick and had to spend a lot of time in bed. Her cat would sit on her bed as she knitted and Clare had trained her so that if the ball of yarn fell away, the cat would jump down and bring it back to her.
After that, I hoped that one day I'd have another female cat to name for the saint. I'm so touched by my neighbor's sweet and thoughtful gift!
