Ok, so I need some more knowledgeable people to offer advice here. My brother's g/f has a very prego kitty. We call her Mama kitty. So, the point is, we have no idea when she actually got pregnant. When they moved a short time ago, she got out, and then not soon after that, her male cat started studding, so it was one of the 2 times. OJ has since been fixed. However, when my brother got home from work this evening, he found Clyde, one of her son's from a previous litter, nursing. She's got milk just a flowing, so I am assuming this means she is close. I've never actually dealt with a pregnant cat before, so I am unsure. And trust me, as soon as possible, Mama is going to be spayed, and no more litters, even if I take her in myself.

She's been nesting from what they said for awhile now. At least 2 weeks... but nothing definite. I told him to go ahead and make a spot for her, and put a litter box in their bedroom, and food in there. That's the only way to get her comfy and keep the other babies away from her. I've told them the signs of labor, and all that, but we are trying to figure out a time frame. With them both working, I may need to go spend the day with her just to be on the safe side. So please, is her lactating a sign of impending babies? I appreciate all the help and advice. I'm so excited... and this means we will probably end up with a new addition to our cat family. ^.^

Milk production usually shows up 2-3 days before labor...so now is the time to get her set up in her own quiet room with food, litter and a birthing box.

Also....depending on how recently OJ was neutered...it will be important to keep OJ away from the mom cat since males can still produce active sperm for up to a month after a neuter and mom cats can get pregnant again as early as a week after giving birth.

So much for that! lol. Mama's water broke on their bed about 6:30 this morning, and she moved herself into their closet. Best place for her to be too. I got a call at 10:20, and about 10:30 the first baby came out. All white! Then, next thing we know, it's 12:30, and we have 4 healthy babies. OMGOSH I saw the last 2 being born, and it was so great. I've seen my dog give birth, but never a cat. It was so much more tidy and cleaner than my dog, lol. We have 1 white, and 1 all black, one all black with white paws, and 1 black, with 4 white paws, a white chest, and a white tummy! I'm an aunt! No idea on sexes. They are all feeding, and momma was licking away. I told my brother to keep an eye on her. She stopped contracting before we left, so we are hoping it's just 4. She was such a good mama! I almost started crying, i'm such a baby, lol. I'll post pictures asap! I'll be back over there tomorrow.

PS: I couldn't believe how quick they all came. From reading on here, I thought it was going to take hours almost, but they all came within a 2 hour period. WEE!! I'm so happy it was uneventful

Good to read everything went well....make sure that mom and kittens are in a place where there isn't a lot of traffic and make sure that she is kept strictly indoors now.

Thanks Katie and newfostermom. Mama is in a small walk in closet, and the doors close, so it's perfect for when the babies get more mobile. The only people in there are my brother and Casey. She's strictly an indoor cat but she is getting spayed asap, so all is well. I'm so excited. I'll be over there tomorrow.

I thought the same as you... Skittles had 12 in little over hours... I was expecting a 12 to 24 hour birth process

I will say also cats are more tidy at birth.... 4 babies so much fun
