If Patches is caring for her and she is able to nurse then I'd say all you can do is hope for the best. Her momma's care is far better than trying to hand raise her, but if she doesn't seem strong enough to nurse enough you may have to help either with a bottle, syringe, or tube feeding which the vet would have to show you how to do safely.

If she will nurse her momma's milk is way better for her, especially in the first 24-36 hours when they get the colostrum which is full of anitbodies from the mom to boost their immune system.

okay, I'll go with the mommas care..by the way ...that was my daughter who started the thread....she (the runt) doesnt seem to be able to fight for a nipple...there are so many kittens.......also....some of patches nipples are flat....
will that work itself out? How do I be sure all of the kittens get a turn? Actually, none of the kittens seem to find nipples very easily they hunt and pass it right up! Its a miracle ANY little kittens ever survive! They just hunt and hunt for a nipple...get all excited, and pass it by...poor blind little kittens!

newfoster------ I am not an expert by anymeans but I would weigh all the kittens and write it down every day at the same time. that way if one is falling behind you will know to quickly step in and give them turns at bottle feedings to help supplement. others may have a better answer though.

That is a great idea. As soon as I told Dr Clark he said weight them it will help alot to see if all are getting enough because of the big litter and only 8 nipples... I am sure it applies to you
You have 8 new babies....

Think Walmart has postal scales. would think they would work GREAT. and not super expensive. or a K-mart, target etc. not sure how a food scale would work. might not be big enough..........

I used to use my Weight Watchers food bowl scale...didn't do much for me (WW that is) but the scales I'd bought were great for weighing kittens.s

Just wanted to mention, staying the same for a day maybe 2 is okay, as of course, is gaining. Any loss is not cool, jump on supplementing if that is the case.

Generally speaking no matter how tiny the kitten, you want to see it with a rounded little tum and after nursing, napping like the other kittens. Frequent crying, when the others are sleeping, looking more like a shriveled little prune than a tiny but plump bellied kitten are signs of either not getting enough food and/or being cold.
