I am starting a different thread about my cat being pregnant, so I did not hijack Skittles thread.
I was talking about my cat being due in a about a week. I am totally freaking out. I have never done this before and neither has she. The people I got her from told me she was spayed. Well SUPRISE......she is pregnant, so they lied about that. I have had her for 8 months and she has never gone into heat. Well, I thought they had been telling the truth about her being spayed for this reason. Then, I notice her belly getting bigger and her teats were getting bigger. I don't think it is a false pregnancy, because I can feel and see the babies moving around in there.
This is a picture of her 2 weeks ago....She is bigger now....

As long as she isn't like Skittles and hold them in.....LOL Man oh' Man she held off till the last minute.

I just got the closet all cleaned out and put a bed in there for her. I went and bought an under the bed rubbermade tote (you know the short ones) for her. I lined it with foam rubber covered that with an old pillow case, covered that with an old towel, and then covered that with a poece of white cotton material.

What sort of things do I need to have as a just in case thing? I have never done this before. I am actually scared to d this. After reading the whole Skittles thing (with the babies dying). I know it was because she had a big litter. So, hopefully I will be safe.

Skittles did have a big litter, but in any size litter it is to be expected so be prepared..

Lots of towels
bugger sucker
shoe box in case some dont make it
floss
scissors
hemostates if you have them are better to clamp cord.
scale
camera

patients
drink 4 u

Sorry brain dead cant think of much at the moment.. But will say expect the unexpected and take it at that so the mom doesnt stress out... When I saw the green filled sacks I knew so I got them out ASAP...The when I noticed they did not breath yet I let Skittles try a few and it worked she did it... I wanted to make sure not to interfer if I did not need to...
I am excited for you... Let us all know.

I will keep you posted, but I am scared. Like I said I have never done this before. My neighbor said she would help if I needed it. She has done it, so at least I do have some kind of help.

Pokey..and remember, we are here to help you as well.

Pokey...sorry this was not provided to you..but I feel it is important to address in this thread for others. Anyone who gets a cat or kittens from an organization or an individual should ask for (and be given) the cat's medical records. If the cat is fixed, you should be able to get a copy of the spay certificate. If one is not provided, I would have your vet check for a spay scar before allowing it outdoors. Also, cats do not need to be in heat to get pregnant as they are induced ovulators. So even if a cat doesn't have any signs of heat..doesn't mean that the spay was done...so medical records are the key.

Good Luck.

Katie

Before coming on here and finding out that a cat doesn't have to be in heat to get pregnant, I had no idea. I do now though and trust me as soon as I can she will be spayed. To avoid this situation again. And to all those who are wondering all the kittens that Cloe will have, they all have good homes, to friends and family members. I think we might keep one or two of them. My husband wants to keep them all, he is a total cat lover. We already have 4 now.

She is mad at me right now, because I locked her in my room. I won't let any of the other cats or the dog in there. I want her to get use to being in there.
