OUr little Doole Bug was from a foster litter, she was the runt. She got totally pushed away from the milk bar, so I gave her KMR in a syringe several times a day, and took the big kittens out while she had her turn to nurse. I kept this up for about 2 weeks, while she showed how smart she was by nursing while all the others slept, and climbing all over mom to maneuver into a good position. She caught up eventually, and see how healthy and beautiful she is now! I think the Kmr saved her life, she was starting to get weak. She didnt like when I put the syringe in her mouth at first, but she loved the taste and eventually just opened wide!

I am trying to see if I can figure out how to get Skittles to feed her when they are all asleep but you see how they sleep it is like that are in a pile and #1 is usually on the bottom.. Moms milk is better and I want to try that route first any suggestions anyone.. #1 is the kitty all the way on the right of the pyrmid.. See she is the smallest... She does get shoved out of the way... Skittles does not deny any of them she cleans them all and feeds them to her best. She is great even to the runt...
Not saying don't worry..do watch the runt's weight...but my Festus was the runt. Poor little dear, always on the bottom of the pile. Now I know it is because she burrowed to get there! She still burrows into the laundry piles, even if they are already folded! Somewhere on furpics is a photo of her burrowed into a pair of dh's pants he left laying on the bed!

She even burrowed out of the kitten room...she was tiny enough that she fit under the door, and so she was the first kitten who went out exploring the house! Now she is fat and sassy!

Do watch the runt, but so long as it is gaining steadily, it will be fine. Supplementing is always a good idea if you are concerned.

As for the butt-balls...I was at a Chocolate Festival this weekend. One of the booths had necklaces with several large beads made of fur. Looked just like kitty nubbins to me, or what your niece would call butt-balls. Now there's a fashion statement...I'm so pro-neuter that I'm wearing my kitty's nubbins! LOL!

Someone has to be the runt, so long as s/he's gaining I would leave it be.

She is so much thinner.. I am not sure it is that she is thinner or because the others are just big and fat.. I mean at 5 days they are all over 5oz and 1 Chubby is almost 6 oz...

Sounds like she's doing well, but it's always best to keep her monitored. My little Dumpling weighed 5 ounces at 3 weeks!!!

Yeah, the little runt was named Dumpling. See, the first I named Dora (the Explorer) because she was crawling away from her mom when the other kitties were being born. Then there was Dante - he was white with two black spots on his head that looked like devil horns. And Dennis, he looked like Dennis the Menace - he had freckles. And D'Artagnan because he looked like he had a cape on his back. So I was trying to find another "d" name. The people who adopted her kept her name Dumpling! The only one that changed their name was Dora.
And I thought I was so clever! (Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program...)
