No place is really "safe"

http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,...033465,00.html Germany is reeling from this attack. The latest update, which is being broadcast on all TV and radio stations, is that one of the earliest victims has AIDS, and there is a possibility that the subsequent victims of the knife attacks may have been infected. This kind of attack is just insane.

Why is this teenager so stupid?

That's sad. I hope that this latest update is untrue and that no one may have come into contact with hiv/aids virus.

I hope people take this boy seriously now and get him the help he needs.

I saw that and along with this rampage, http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/26/wyoming.shooting.ap/index.html, I was wondering if there was some weird alignment of the stars.

http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,...034303,00.html The latest reports are saying there were 35 victims. The 16-year-old is being charged with 24 counts of attempted murder, as 24 victims were struck in the upper body, mainly from behind.
What's so worrisome is that Germany is hosting the World Cup (soccer/football), which starts in two weeks, and runs about a month. Most security will be focused on the stadiums, not on the public viewing areas. The latter are town squares, fields, train stations, etc., where huge screens will be set up so that anybody can watch the games. Some of these PVAs can accommodate 50,000 people, so how are they going to be able to provide security?
Everybody is worried about attacks by neo-Nazis in eastern Germany: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,...027557,00.html Believe me, if you don't look like a WASP, there are definitely "no-go" areas there.

We were talking about the WM today at the VHS. It is really horrible, we are so scared that they are going to set off bombs, there is a big fuss about the Iran government, and about the english people making a "sauferei"

I am not going anywhere out of my house during these times >_<

I think a lot of people feel that way. I don't plan on sticking around in Stuttgart after work. I just hope the main train station will be okay, as it also houses the federal police (formerly "Bundesgrenzschutz", now "Bundespolizei"), which should discourage the rowdies, etc., especially since the K-9 unit is also there.
