PLEASE HELP!
We moved recently and everything seemed to be fine. But we've noticed that our Mishka start loosing weight- he looks more like a rat, then a cat now! I am pregnant so I can not touch the litter- and yesterday my hubby brought a concern to me- that there were no poop in his litter AT ALL- and he did not change his litter for 4-5 days!!!!! With moving, coming baby and other stuff- our Cat-Baby was the very last thing we should be worried about- then I noticed that I have not gave him his dry food for a while now- and it is at the same level ( we use automatic feeder) Now as I recall- he became very sleepy, but I did not worry about it- I thought at some point all cats get this kind a lazy. Today he would not even come up to greet me, as he does, I called him couple of times and he would not come up to me- I came to the 2d floor and there he was, sitting, and not looking really good, so skinny, it is crazy now as I think about it- I was too conserned about myself and my baby inside me!!!!!!
While I was trying to get him some wet food- he vomited right there on a floor with dryfood ( which looked like he just ate it and it got wet inside of him and then he throwed up!!!!!) - he licked wet fod for a couple of sec and then left it. Now he just siting on the kitchen floor, gazed.. WHAT SHOULD I DO??????
It is memorial weekend, I think I'd be safer to take him to vet....

Oh my goodness!!

Call an emergency vet immediatley...it sounds like your poor kitty could have a massive blockage.

Call the vet right away, and keep us posted.

Sending many healing prayers to your sweet furbaby.

Call an Emergency vet.
Most regular vet clinics will have the number of an ER vet on their outgoing message.
This is serious.

my heart goes out to you. I just went through this with my mitzee girl. she ate rubber bands too, and i dont know what else. Did anything show on the xray? Nothing showed on the xray with her. I purchased cat insurance..because they do cover for ingested items..and apparently some cats do this. Again..........sending hugs your way and I will watch this thread to see how your kitty fares.

I know this will be difficult financially but as you said...
if your kitty is not better tomorrow, you have no choice.
Please update as soon as you know more.
You & sweet Mishka will be in my prayers.

Some manufacturers when they manufacture plastic and rubber they use animal renderings as part of the process. This is why some cats are drawn to plastic bags, rubberbands and other items.

I hope your kitty gets through the crisis okay.

Thank you, guys- I do not think he'll get better without surgery- he is shedding so bad now- hi has very short hair and we've never had a problem like that- he just lays underneith the bed and doesn't eat, doesn't do anything at all!!!
We'll try to force some water into him, so he'll not dehydrate and will watch him closely- our emergency clinic open 24 hours, so if something will go too wrong- we'll rash there, otherwise- will check with that clinic tomorrow.. Crossed my fingers! Both me and hubby cried all day long now..

Please have them do labwork on him before considering surgery. I am concerned that since it has been a few days since he was able to eat, he may have liver damage. (Sorry to be so blunt about your beloved cat!) I don't know for sure how they would tell, but I think the vet can advise about this.

We had a dog who was very ill, and at the time we were prepared to spend money we didn't have to help save him. The emergency vet was encouraging drastic measures. The next day, our regular vet advised us that his chances were grim, and he did not feel it was right to put the dog through exploratory surgery. He gave supportive care and observed Logan until it was obvious he needed to be pts.

I'm sorry, and I hope I'm wrong. I hope your kitty starts feeling better if you push fluids, and offer him chicken baby food (with no onions or garlic).

Well, after all- we whatched him closely, but took him to another hospital at around 12 AM.. it is 3.05 now and we are very tired, but know that our cat is in a good hands! Thank you Beckiboo, you are right- the vet told us, that the yellow tinting on his tongue and his skin might be liver damage, so she will do blood work before doing surgery and also, will look at the liver while at the surgery as well. I AM SO HAPPY WITH THIS HOSPITAL!
My husband found it online- it is about an hour from us. Actually, when we pulled in to the parking lot- we thought we are in a real trouble, we took our parents credit card- but the place ( hospital) looked so amazing ( expencive) we thought we would not have enough money to afford it, but since we are there- it would be too late to say no! Anyways, the estimate came out even less then at our local emergency hospital( only 1200), the place was amazing, they offered to do free Xrays and blood work on him, asked specificly what kind of food does he like to eat at home most- and made a note- to make sure that is what he'll get after surgery, asked for my personal stuff ( I happened to wear three layers of Tshirts- so I gave them one) , vet took the time and explained us every item on estimate and why she thought that it would be nesseccary to do it, BUT also picked which ones are optional and that we did not HAVE to use. They had Plazma screen tvs in a waiting room, coffee, hot tea and muffins, chocolate bars and crackers with cheese and it smelled so clean and NICE in there ( not to compare to our local emergency office)- we left in a real good mood! We think Mishka is in a real good hands! Please, send us your good vibes! We praying he'll make it through without having liver damage! Our parents been really supportive in all this ( we just bought a house and having our first child soon) so I am just gratefull for what we have noe and hoping for the best!

Vet called around 6.30 AM. Surgery went well- with a little complications, they had to remove a dead part of his stomach ( not sure what was it- Hubby talk to her) , also she said his white blood cells are a little low so, maybe we'll need to have blood transfer ( don't know what is it). She will be back at 7.30 PM for her shift and will cal us right away to let us know how is he doing. But I called already three times just to check on him ( staff there is so helpfull and understanding). First time- they said- he is resting comfortably, still not eating and under IV, second time: he is doing realy well, looking good and recovering really well, and just right now- they said- everything is looking really good, his blood results ( for liver) came back really good, so we might be able to take him home soom, he also ate a little bit of wet food!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAH!!! Doc wll call us.. now I know I'll just have to call them again before 7.30PM!

Thank you guys for all your support!

Can you call around a bit? My cat had the same thing and it was about $350 for the surgery. Of course there was anesthetic, boarding and all which was $600 for the entire total, but $2500 sounds a bit much. There are also payment plans you might discuss..

Sorry, I posted ASAP before I read the whole thread. Sounds like things are going well.

It is so hard to find a vet, but even in your emergency situation, it sounds like you stumbled onto a good one. I always have much better experiences with those who take the time to explain to me the whys and whats.

Good luck and look forward to hearing about Mishka.
