I just saw on the news that Malaysia was hit with a big earthquake as people slept last night, killing and injuring thousands.
Can our Maylasian members let us know they are ok, please?
I will be praying that these poor people get the medical and supply help that they need. The news said they are without a lot of that kind of stuff, after having to deal with the tsunami awhile back.

Hi - it's the token Malaysian here!!! We're fine!!!! The earthquake was in Southern Indonesia!!! Now that you mention it, I should call my volunteer services (Mercy Malaysia, the first to arrive in Bandar Aceh when the tsunami struck) and see if they need my help!!!

Thanks for the good and kind thoughts!!! Please send your prayers towards Bandar Yogyakarta in Indonesia - it was caused by the very active volcano Gunung Merapi...

You're in my thoughts, everyone from that part of the world. Such tragedy so close together over there.

I though the area around the volcano had been evacuated?

They've evacuated most, some of course, stayed where they came from - they expected an eruption NOT an earthquake ... and not an earthquake of a6.3 magnitude... Malaysia has already sent our rescue/relief teams as of early this morning (May 27)...

My prayers go out to all the people of that region. Both those immediately involved, and the others who have friends and family in danger!

Abymummy, I'm glad you and yours are ok! Please keep us posted on how the rescue is going.

Well as far as I know the death toll, unfortunately, is rising - around 2,500 so far and about the same number injured. My maid is freaking out as her family is in the region, she can't get through to her family as all forms of communication is down - the main worry now is that the earthquake is a precursor to a violent, huge eruption so they're trying to get everybody out as soon as possible...please, everyone, send prayers to those in need...

Oh, how devastating! Please let her know that many people all over the world are concerned for her family. Prayers that they are safe, and will be able to contact her in some way, soon. And that the people still there can be evacuated before the eruption!

The earthquake was right off the Java shore, and thank goodness there was no tsunami. The death toll is mounting by the hour, however. My thoughts are with the people there.

The bad news: terrible aftershocks and a new earthquake just off Papua New Guinea, death toll still rising and Gunung Merapi is still rumbling ominously.

The good news: My maid has finally been able to contact her family and they are all safe...lots of structural damage to the family home.

I am so thankful that her family is safe! Terrible about their home, though.

I will keep them and the other people in the area in my prayers!

Well, the situation is grim...the tectonic plates holding the pacific rim seems to want to move. My country is safe-ish as we are not on the fault, but we are nearby enough to be able to feel some effects of the earthquake and the rumblings of Gunong Merapi (which just meants Mount of Fire btw). Malaysia is becoming affected by Mt. Merapi - the weather here is getting erratic and we haven't really seen blue skies in quite a while, which as you can imagine, can get very depressing...

The death toll as of this morning is 4,600+ and almost double that for injuries. The Javanese are in a sticky position - if there is a tsunami, they run for the mountains BUT the mountain is a volcano...foriegn aid is flooding in thankfully.

The last 18 months in this world have been quite devastating, I wonder if God is trying to tell us something?

Keep sending prayers and do count your blessings, big and small on a daily basis...

The death toll really is mounting - the last reports I heard said 5,000+. They're desperately in need of tents, and the hospitals are simply overwhelmed. All they need is for Merapi to erupt.
