Leash training

Just got an email from a friend in Arizona who wants to train her 1 year old cat to a leash. They'd like to take "Furbee" on walks and since they don't want him to be an outdoor cat they've decided to see how he'll adjust to a leash. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
