We are going to Cancun (or rather the Riviera Maya) for our honeymoon (8 days 7 nights) and need tips and advice! I'm so excited. We are staying in an all-inclusive resort Aventura Spa (Palace Resorts). They offer trips through the resort, some included some aren't. The ones I'm most interested in are Chichen-itza (mayan ruin) and XCaret (ecological park). I'm also thinking of taking a little time to go to Cozumel and maybe taking a glass-bottom boat out from there. Anyone done these things, are they worth it? I've heard fabulous things about the first 2 I mentioned.

Also, we will definitely be going horse-back riding. I've got the name of a ranch where you ride through the jungle and when you get to the beach they let you take the saddles off and swim the horses. I'm a huge horse-enthusiast and rider so this almost seems a dream come true.

Other things they offer are trips to Tulum and Coba. If we go to XCaret I might also do a swim with the dolphins. Ooooh they are so many choices!

Hi!!! Cancun is beautiful!!! I went there after high school and did almost everything you mentioned. There is a water park there that sets up trips to swim with the dolphins! I HIGHLY recommend it. It is the most AWESOME thing ever! They actually take you into a sectioned off part of the ocean...I have done it twice since then and love it each time!

Chichen-itza is beautiful, but it is SO HOT there. I went in May and it was hard to breathe cause of the heat. Bring bottles of water...keep hydrated. Also, your at your own risk for drinking any water that's not out of a bottle there. Some hotels are ok, but also bring immodium in case you get a case of disintery! The food is different and your tummy may not agree with it...so be prepared! I saw Tulum, that was great too.

One of my favorite parts was this booze cruise to La Isla Muheres...the Isle of Women. You go on this big party boat to this small island and see a show and kind of party a bit. The show is great, the boat is awesome and the crew make it a blast! There is music, fire, dancers... it was so much fun!!!

I also did the horse back tour (I used to ride when I was in school) and swam in the ocean with the horses. It was awesome, but scary for me at the same time as I can't really swim and have a slight fear of water or more or less drowning. For me, the ground is better... but it was amazing to experience once!

We didn't go to XCaret, but did do the snorkeling. That was neat...although I like the snorkeling better in Jamaica & the Bahamas...

Anyway, congratulations and have a good time!!!!

PM Coolcat.. Hopefully he will find this thread. He lives down there!

I went to the riveria Maya 10/04 on my honeymoon. Stayed at the iberostar Lindo. We did the Xel-ha trip, which is also a ecological water park kind of place. We did this thing where you go underwater with this scuba type hat on and you can see the fishes. Xtra money though. It included a trip to some ruins (I think it was Tulum). It was very very hot at the ruins, and I didn't particulary enjoy it, and I tend to like educational things. We also did a guided shopping trip to Cancun. Our resort also had a bus that takes you right into playa del carmen. we didn't go to cozumel, but there is a boat or something.

Its a bit of challenge to decide what to do because my fiance is afraid of the water. I love the water and want to do a few water things but dont' want him to feel left out either.

My DH and I stayed at Aventura Spa Palace for our HM! Unfortunately my DH gets pretty motion sick, so we didn't do a lot of the tours. We did go to Tulum and it was great. Very hot and muggy, but a worthwhile visit. (Take your own bug spray with you - they charge a lot for it on-site.) I know someone who wrote a GREAT review of her honeymoon there, but it's posted on a website that you have to be a member of...
They went to Xel-Ha and really enjoyed it. Word to the wise, you can choose to split part of your time between ASP and some of the other Palace resorts. That said, I've heard that Xpu-Ha is not very honeymoon-friendly because it's a family-oriented resort. We went there to snorkle one afternoon and it was nice but too many kids. (I like kids, don't get me wrong, but not on our HM!) Oh, and a lot more buggy, because they seemed to have more standing water. My DH got eaten up while we were there.

Thanks!! I didn't even think of the bugs... We will probably go to Chichen-itza so might not go to Tulum. But if we had more time I'd see them all! One big reason we wanted to go to ASP was no children. What did you think of the Lagoo at ASP? I've heard such mixed things. I would love to know where that review is, can you pm me?

Thanks!

We went to the mayan ruins and loved it. We had to walk through a "woody" area, but dont recall bugs or mosquitos...it was last august and very hot....its so amazing to look at them up close though. We went without a tour guide but we listened to one that was nearby with another group and heard some very interesting facts.

We didnt enjoy Cozymel, it was really expensive and too "tourist-like" for us....we had the best time at costa maya!
Have a fun trip!

Pack loose fitting comfortable clothing cuz it's bloody hot, hot, hot there! I always wear linen when I'm in Mexico -- I don't care that it's wrinkled, cuz I'm nice and cool. Don't forget a hat and sunscreen.
