There is a baby bird in my yard that I think is a baby blackbird. He can't fly yet, but is big enough to hop around.

I read online that if there are adult birds in the area that sound aggitated when you're near the baby that you should leave it alone and let them take care of it. I hate to do this though!! There are many feral cats around here that will kill this poor bird, not to mention I have to let my dogs out in that part of the yard to use the bathroom!!

I guess I want to know, what I should do?? I can't imagine the thought of letting an animal kill this poor bird with no chance to get away!

Should I try to care for it for tonight and try to find a vet to take it tomorrow??
Or could I raise and release it myself??

Nevermind, I managed to get ahold of my vet (who is an avian specialist) and he said that the adult birds are really very sufficient at keeping predators away from fledgelings that are on the ground. He said that within a few days to a week the baby should be able to fly! He said to keep an eye out for it and if the adult birds lose intrest in it then I should bring it to him and he will continue to raise it until it is ready to be released into the wild.

Please send vibes for this little guy to survive the next few days!!!!

Yup, baby birds leave the nest and spend 3-5 days hopping about on the ground and in bushes until they learn to fly.

I've watched sparrows efficiently attack a rather large tomcat and drive him from their fledglings though.
