Hey all,

First time poster and I was hoping you could all help me out. I just moved into a new place and it seems as if I have a new friend. There's this cat (with a collar) that wants to come into the house every time it sees me outside. It's a nice cat and all, but I already have an indoor cat. I'm thinking the previous resident was feeding this cat and letting it inside.

How do I get this cat to stop bothering me? I'm afraid it will get into the house and have it out with my indoor cat or it might get stuck in the garage without me knowing.

Thanks for the advise!

Do you know who the cat belongs to?? Does the collar have any ID on it?? If there is no information, I would try to find out who owns the cat and make them aware that their cat is trying to get into your home. I agree that you should not let a strange cat into your house, but I think it would be a good idea to inform the owner.

Could the people who moved out of your house have left the cat behind?

What about taking her to the vet to be tested and vaccinated and then having 2 indoor cats? She seems to have found you and is telling you she wants to be with you and your house. Why not? My theory is to have 2 of most pets so they have company when you are not around. If you don;t want another cat, its fine, that was just a suggestion...

Jen....I agree with your idea IF this cat isn't owned...however there are lots of people who still have indoor/outdoor cats. My parents had one who used to visit the neighbors...some neighbors let him inside for a snack. The OP needs to confirm first that this cat doesn't already have a home.

Oh right of course, I just mean to consider keeping her too, obviously see if she belongs to anyone first

It sounds like you have a general indoor/outdoor visiting cat!

I agree that it might be a good idea to find out if it has an owner, as it could possibly be the last people who lived there and kitty wandered!

I have a similar kitty ('lives' over the road) and it has worked out for year so far that he comes to visit, come in the kitchen (while my cats have the rest of the house (with the kitchen door shut) and he also comes round for 'play dates' while I'm walking my kitties in the garden!

I have to agree with TNR1.Does it have a ID or something like that? Maybe the cat thinks its your its owner.Take it to the vet and see if it has a chip.
