I recently had to put down my Gorby who was very sick..
My house is just not the same with only 2 cats.
I plan on rescuing a cat by the end of June when I will be home more often.

I have been looking at hairless cats and something about then just tugs at my heart.. Can anyone give me advice on that type of cat?

Also, anyone know of a sphinx or hairless rescue? I did some looking on line and only found like 4 all mid to west coast. Most were not available..

Would appreciate any info...
Thanks,
Judith

Judith...you may want to contact the 4 you found online and see if they know any other rescues. Most purebred rescues do know about other groups. If you are asking about the personality of a hairless cat..you may want to post that under the breeders forum. Can't say I've run into many in rescue.

There are Sphynx Rescue Groups http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=sphynx+rescue you need to sign up for a free Yahoo Email address, but once you do there are groups that talk only about the Sphynx Breed as well as any rescue's.

There are two other rescue's to keep an eye on http://www.purebredcatrescue.org/pur...on/default.asp they are a purebred rescuse and also http://www.sphynxrescue.com/availablesphynx.html.

The only other advice I can give is to keep checking http://www.petfinder.com/ or look for good breeders in your area that may have retired breeders for sale. It looks like there are adoption fees for Sphynx of $200-$600 even through they are rescue's and there are not a lot of them in rescue.

I hope you end up adopting one, they are an amazing breed!!!

I must say that I have never been impressed with the look of the sphynx cats...they just look too different to me. (Although, honestly, Luvmysphunx, your kitties have always looked cute in their pics!) But my current foster Momma Sarabi has licked herself bald from her waist back, except for the legs. And I find it oddly appealling. Her skin is pretty, with her light tabby stripes, and she is so peachy soft!

Good luck finding a rescue sphynx. And condolences on the loss of Gorby.

A friend of mine has a hairless with just one eye - she is the SWEETEST little cat I have EVER met, and that includes my own - her name is Seti and she is a cuddle bug with a tender personality - she just begs to be smothered with love and affection.

I don't know about other hairless cats, but I'd say if you can find one, you won't ever regret adding such a special little non-fur furbaby to your life!
