for the past 2 days darwin has been dry heaving, i'm not sure if he's trying to get a hairball up, but it's a bright yellow color and very watery. i'll see some hair in there, but not much. i've tried giving him petromalt last night, only to find 4 puke spots this morning.

we are in the process of moving, and there are boxes all over the place. he seems to be eating and drinking normally and he's using the litter box fine. any clues?

Well, for one, it's not a hairball since it's bright yellow. What is petromalt? Maybe it's all the stress from moving, maybe you've left out something toxic that was well hidden before, I don't know. A vet would be your best bet because this could be the first sign of some greater illness.

Please at least call your vet on the phone. If petromalt is an over the counter remedy, I'd be wary. Personally, I won't trust anything unless it comes from the vet.

It could also be a sign of a respitory problem. If my kitty starts coughing, he has occ thrown up. If this keeps up longer than a day I would bring him in. It may just be due to stress but i would be on the safe side, esp if he can't keep anything down.

Definately check with your vet.....but....it could be a number of things. A hairball is still a possibility. He could be having trouble getting rid of it. However, there are several other possibilities too. He could have a respiratory problem or he could have eaten something foul (that's not passing through the GI system). It could also be due to stress related to the move you mentioned you're going through. Anywho, the best idea is to take him to your vet to get a definate diagnosis and treatment.

Petromalt is a hairball rememdy. It's pretty much the same as Laxatone.

I'd at least call your vet and see what they think. If he's been vomiting for 2 days, they might want to look at him. Prego had a hairball that irritated his tummy so much, he kept throwing up serveral more times after coughing up the hairball. My vet took some x-rays to make sure he didn't have any blockages and then she gave him some tummy-soothing prescription food and some medicine.

i did call the vet and they think it MAY be stress related. after the move, i'm taking him in. he is eating and drinking, so i'm not that concerned, but when he vomits its just bile and a little food. i'm worried he's blocked.
