Last night DH and I found a lil calico girl and we brought her home. She looked skinny but her belly popped out so I looked at her nipples and they were very prominent. I've had several preganant cats before so I knew she was preggo. TO me it looked like she was early in her pregnancy..........but Now im not so sure. I went to visit her in her confined area and when I got up I had a huge water stain on my leg, I touched it and ssmelled it but it wasnt urine. It was pretty much in the middle of the room on my husbands shirt.
After that I looked at her vagina and it was swollen.....
I also saw some mucus. SHes very antsy and asking for belly rubs and she just wants attention a whole lot. Could this be early labor? To me it doesnt look like she's ready but then again she seems like a very young petite cat.Her nipoples stick out alot, but there doesnt seem to be any milk yet.

Pleeeeeseee! I need some advice. We are planning to take her to the humane society, but should I prepare for labor?

Thanks so much for ur time!

Sounds like you should definately prepare for labor. My Jada was only 10 months old when she got pregnant and was only carrying 4 kittens so she didn't get real fat either. Her sides were just sticking out and lumpy.

Awww! She sounds sweet. I think it's wonderful of you to take her in!

Have you made a nest for her? I made a nest out of a box for Jada and filled it with lots of comfy towels and blankets (that you can throw away if she gives birth on them) and then covered it with a blanket with just a little space for her to climb in and out. Try closing her in a small, dark and quiet room with her nest, food, water and litter box. Check in on her occassionally of course to see if she's in distress or wants your attention. Hope this helps.

nope, everything is the same. We are taking her to the humane society in the morning if she doesnt show more signs. I think she will be better there, I cant provide much here except my closet, I already have Sango running around. Im really happy she's tame! She has a huge chance of being adopted after her kittens are born because shes sweet and a cutie.

Well I'll let ya know what happens! Im really sad right now, its time for Sango to go as well, I'm sure gonna miss her!

One question tho, I want to take them to a no kill shelter, would that be the humane society? I live in houston, so if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

Most "humane societys" are kill places, they do their best but will put them down if they have to and tend to put down pregnant cats.

Most "rescues" are the ones that are no-kill places, but be sure to ask when you call, and be sure that you know for sure if they are or not.

You need to call ahead and ask what the humane society's policies are regarding pregnant cats. Some do not have enough room or resources to be "no kill" as they are open admission shelters...other do have space or a good foster/volunteer program or they work with rescue groups and thus would not be a "kill" shelter. Your closet is better than the shelter IF the humane society is one that kills for space.
