Hey all. I got my kitten a week ago. She was fine for the first few days, and the last few days she's been peeing wherever she wants. She has a clean litter box that is readily available. Any ideas how I can get her to stop going out of her litter box?

The best idea is to confine her to a small room with an easy to clean floor (such as a bathroom) with her food and water dishes, a warm, comfy bed, plenty of interesting toys and her litter until she is consistantly using the box. Little babies do not yet have the control to hold it and if the litter is in another room or they have to walk for it, they won't. They will just go wherever.

If you haven't already, now would be a good time to call your vet and arrange an appointment for him to meet her, do a thorough exam and begin her vaccination schedule.

Where is the litterbox? If it's in her "nest" area she'll refuse it. Her nesting area would be where she sleeps or eats.

If that's not the problem then I would confine her in a small room (preferably the bathroom) with her litterbox and food and water. Keep these on oposite walls. She won't pee or poo on the floor near her food so she'll have no choice but to use the box. Once she's doing this for a few days you can try letting her out again. That's what worked for me when I got my kittens.

Did you make any changes--different box or brand of litter?
