I recently became the mom of a beautiful 1 year old female cat named Luna. We adopted her from the local Humane Society and she such a wonderful cat!! The Humane Society sent her home with a bag of Science Diet Adult Original cat food, which is what we have been feeding her. I am wondering if we should stick with that, or if there is something better out there that I should go with, something that might also be less expensive (but not more expensive) Also, should we also give her canned (wet) food every so often as well? So far I have noticed that she does not use her littler box extremely often, and there is no smell (YAY!) so I don't relaly want that to change at all (as long as she is healthy and that is how things are supposed to be!) I have always heard that wet food= diarrhea/smelly poop, so should I stay away from it? Also any other tips for this new cat mom would be greatly appreciated! I want to keep Luna happy, healthy, and with us for many, many years. Thanks a bunch!!

you can do a wuick search on this site and gets loads of Nutritional info... I am not a Science diet fan as it contains by products( heads ft intestines etc) , lots of ground corn and chemicals preservatives) .... I prefer to use products without those...

I have a cat on a canned and raw diet and one on Nutros Natural choice ...

If you switch do it gradually... over a couple weeks is best

Thanks. Can you tell me some brands (that might be sold in WalMart or Petco) that do not contain by products??

Nutro Natural Choice is very good. I think its comparable in price.

I'm very pro-wet food in the diet. Not everyone does it though.

How much wet food is good to give and how often? Would there be a change in smell/frequency of poops if I start using it.

I think the majority of us believe a wet food diet is better for your kitty than a dry food only diet (especially neutered males - but your baby is a she so not especially applicable).

I've recently changed our 2 from all dry to mostly wet with just a bit (1/4 - 1/2 cup per day to share) of dry. Bijou was getting a bit heavy on the dry diet only and has seemed to slim down since feeding wet now.

I give them 1 can of wet morning and night - which they share, but since Mika prefers dry and Bijou wet, I believe he probably eats most of the wet.

We feed Merricks wet but here in Canada it's pretty expensive - $1.69 per can so you may want to look for something good but a bit less expensive.

I was feeding Phenom Nutro and she liked it at first but has since decided to be picky and now refuses anything but fancy feast. She loves her dry food though!
