Hello everyone!

Came here to see if anyone else has had this problem with their pets. This cat is really my friend's cat, but he is a favorite of mine. "Little Bear" was treated for ear mites by the vet. Later on, I noticed his ears were crusty around the edges and his face looked a bit motheaten. My friend took him to the vet and he had 2 shots of Invermectin over a two week period. Seemed to clear up the problem, but now it has come back. Don't want to go the Invermectin route again, as I have read that it is very toxic.

Does anyone know of a salve or ointment that will get rid of these parasites and give the cat some relief. I'm just afraid that his condition will get worse if we don't try something.

Our vet has recently retired from his practice and the only other vet is several miles away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated by me and "Little Bear". Many thanks!

The flea protection Revolution will kill ear mites. So you might try applying a dose of Revolution between the shoulder blades and see whether that helps.

Is Little Bear an indoor or outdoor kitty? If Little Bear is an indoor/outdoor or outdoor cat you'll need to use Revolutioon on him to keep the mites away. If he's strictly indoors it could be food allergies or inhaled allergies.

Even if he is strictly indoors you can bring mites, fleas and ticks into the home on your own clothing. I agree the Revolution treatment is a good way to go.

There is a product called Accarex, a one time ear mite treatment that my vet uses and it really works great! I have rescued some ferals with severe ear mites and it always worked well on them. Ask your vet if they have it because it works great!

You bring fleas and ticks, but not ear mites. I've never known a strictly indoor cat to have gotten earmites.
