I know we are well-represented wtih Bengal owners, so maybe I can get some answers. Sammy has just joined out household! After losing my beloved Sasha of 14 years, who I had since he was three days old, Sammy arrived last weekend. He immediately made himself at home, sleeping with me every night...but he walks through the house very vocal, singing. In fact, he has something to say about just everything. It's not a stressed sound, it's a chirping sing-song, and during the night it becomes somewhat of an opera. I've heard bengals are very vocal and also very cuddly -? He also has leopard spots on his back, not tabby targets. Is he part bengal?

He also is obsessed with grooming. Obsessed. This is something I'm going to take up with the vet, as it's a sign he's stressing over the drastic changes in his life during the past month: 2 different shelters (2 cages); one Petco cage, and about three days from being euthanized before I found him and knew that because he is 8 years old, he needed a good home or the chances would be slim he'd make it.

Otherwise, he's purring, eating, happy, cuddling, he just grooms constantly, it never lets up. Do bengals groom like this? I'm trying to ascertain what is innate and what might be stress.

Any thoughts here? When Saba was rescued and brought home a year ago, she integrated very fast. No signs of stress. So this is new to me.

Here he is!

No not bengal but beautiful cat
. Bengals don't groom a whole lot just because they don't need to. Their fur is very short. I usually see my girl groom after she's eaten or gone to the bathroom. She enjoys grooming others though.

It could be a number of things causing excessive grooming. It could be allergies (he's itchy). Are fleas a possibility? That can cause a massive amount of grooming. It could be his personality. It could be stress from the move. Many things to take into consideration.

I dont much about bengals but he does not look like one to me. I would say brown tabby with white domestic shorthair.

Good to know. I'll love him just for his Tabby self!
Yes, when I adopted him Satruday morning he has papers verifying FeLV booster, distemper booster, Avantage injection - which is unusual maybe - usually the vial form is used unless a very severe flea problem. Because he was 8 years they decided not to put him to sleep and see if he could be adopted. I've just read up on over-grooming as a reflexive reaction to stress, a new multi-cat household, etc. and made an appt for the vet tomorrow. I know he really likes me and the over-grooming started Monday when I went to work 12 hrs a day and he didn't have me there.

Might want to invest in a Feliaway Comfort Zone Diffuser Kit - it could help him with the adjustment to his new household.

He is just the sweetest thing on 4 paws !!!
