I just found out that my precious little Fiona most likely has FIP. I am completely heartbroken! I know there is no cure and she probably doesn't have very long to live. The vet gave me a few meds and vitamins to help her a little, but I have no way to know if they will help her or not. Like so many of you, my cat is truely part of my family and the thought of losing her absolutely destroys me. Does anyone have any advice for me? Has anyone else gone through this?

Thanks for the links...there is some good information. I just feel so helpless! Also, I am so worried b/c I know I will probably have to euthanize her (isn't that what most end up doing?) Otherwise, won't she be suffering at the end? I don't know at what point to do that, I don't want her to suffer but I selfishly want her for as long as possible...

I lost Festie's sister Mattie to FIP. She was about 5 months old I think. It is a very horrible horrible illness, but you will find the strength to do what needs to be done. Kluchetta lost her Smudge to FIP.

Mattie was a jet black kitty, and the one kitten from the litter that we had planned to keep. It was pretty heartbreaking to lose her.

Tell me more about Fiona. Do you have any pics?

Here is a link to the Orion Foundation. They are trying to find treatment or cure for FIP. I learned about it here at TCS...how I wish I had been a member when Mattie was ill! We will be here for you through this difficult time.

Warning...this site will bring anyone to tears. But there is so much info here. I hope it helps.

Ok, I am going to attempt adding some photos...

My Fiona is so beautiful and is honestly the sweetest cat I have ever known. She has always been very calm and loves attention. She's just so adorable! I love her so extremely much, this is one of the hardest things I've been through, but thank you for the support...it means a lot! Her life will have been short, but I know I have given her all the love in my heart and then some! I hope you like the pics of her in happier days!

She is very beautiful. Looks a lot like my boy Garfield, who is the biggest sweetheart. Also like my monster foster Momcat Natalie, who looks sweet but has been giving me quite a time of it!

Fiona is a beautiful cat!! I'm so sorry to hear she has FIP. She is very lucky to have someone who loves her as much as you do. Make great memories while Fiona is with you.

Fiona is a beautiful name for a even more beautiful cat!

I'm very very sorry you have to experience something as awful as FIP. I lost my Julian to it and now my Daisy has the same thing. Best thing that I can advise is just make her happy and comfortable and spend alot of quality time with her until you notice she has no life left in her. You will for sure be able to tell when the time is right. Fiona will let you know. But until then, just be happy with her and make her even more spoiled than she already is.

She is so beautiful. And I'm so sorry she has this horrible thing. But you are blessed to have met her even for a short time.
