Fatty Liver Disease

My oldest of 6 years, Duckie, has what the vet thinks might be fatty liver disease. He hasn't been eating properly for almost a month now and he looks awful. Has anyone else had a cat who has gone through this? How did you treat the disease? I've read online that the treatment is force-feeding for 4-6 weeks via a feeding tube. It sounds horrendous and I'm not sure I'm willing to put Duckie through that.

He's only 6 years old, so I would think any treatment would be an option to add more years to his life. First the vet needs to find out if there's an underlying cause of him not eating. In the extreme, they would insert a permanent feeding tube and you would feed him every day and give him fluids. Thats in the extreme, under normal circumstances, you can try to get him to eat with a syringe.

Oh, the syringe method sounds completely do-able! Thank you Sandi! I'm trying to get in touch with the vet this morning to find out what he's suggesting we do.
