My dad saw a stray cat at the barn. I haven't seen him/her yet but I have been sitting some food out in the barn for hopefully he finds it and not the coyotes and the other critters. And hopefully no coyotes find him they are very bad here. And I hope he stays at the barn my dad has an outside dog that is cat aggressive is one of the million reasons Tavia can never be outside other than she is not to ever be an outside cat.

Tavia....what you may want to do is see about borrowing a humane trap and trapping this stray so he can be neutered. Below is a list of organizations in Kentucky that work with feral cats:

TaviasMom, bless you for caring for the cat! Katie is right, if you can get a group to neuter him, he will be much better off. As for the coyotes, maybe your dad could "mark territory", which discourages coyotes, as pee, esp. man's pee, is a form of communication that they understand very well. Since I have initiated the "mark territory" program in my yard, the coyotes & skunks have respected it - raccoons don't seem to care, and the fox understands that it doesn't include him. I hope that your dad's dog doesn't get the cat either - maybe your dad could show the dog that he (your dad) considers Tavia to be on a social level above the dog, and that it is the dog's job to protect the cat, not harm it. And if you get a chance, check out NationalGeographic Channel's "Dog Whisperer" starring Ceasr Milan, for a great look on understanding how dog's minds & social order work - I love that show!

I haven't even seen the cat yet my dad and uncle have. All I know is its a big black cat. Wish I could see him I love black cats. My boyfriend had a fit when I said I was going to try and see if I could pet him. He loves cats but he was like its wild you know better than touching a wild cat. Well the worst that could happen is I would be scratched one more time I am used to that. I work in a nursing home, and I have a hyper dog scratches are nothing new.
