I moved to a new apartment on May 1st and my cat (only have one) has taken to meowing at 4 or 5 am in the last week or so. Am I doing something wrong? He has never done this before. In my old apartment, he slept with me in a closed bedroom. He has been spayed and has ready access to food and water at all times. I give him dry food every day and half a package of wet food on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. My new apartment is a studio but, like I said, he has only started this in the last week or so. I have tried ignoring him but I am worried he may irritate my neighbours because he does it in the hallway by the door (he has never been outdoors). Any suggestions?

Perhaps he misses the old place.

Are there any other cats or animals in your new apartment building? Maybe he can hear his neighbors.

I think he misses his old place too !! strange nosies , new smells all add up to making him wonder ´where am I ? ´ although you did say this has just started, strange, maybe he can smell another cat from another apartment, or hear someone come home late (maybe on a late shift ?) Chat to your neighbours, maybe they can throw some light onto the matter, and it will also give you a chance to apologise up front, just in case they can hear him. Also a brill way of meeting your new neighbours !!

I can totally understand where you are coming from Cindyloohoo, Im going through this same thing right now with Barkley and Im searching for a solution quickly because I too am afraid that it is disturbing the neighbors and I surely do not want a letter from the management. Let me know what ground you make with your kitty!

Lucky did the samething from midnight until we got up. Sometimes you just have to let them cry. After 2 weeks he stopped. Now he just playfully cries for 20 minutes when the last human goes to bed.
