I'm not sure if you all remember when Jada had her kittens I was concerned about her and took her to the vet's office the day after giving birth for an ultrasound. Well, one of the nurse's there loves loves loves Jada and her personality so she said she wanted to adopt one of Jada's kittens. She and her fiance came by yesterday and ended up picking out Little Jada (My Jada's little look alike) The nurse confirmed that she's a longhair and noticed her laid back personality. Looks like she'll be the only cat in the house but she'll have to learn to live with a Collie.
I'm not a dog person so I'm not sure how that will go? Is there anything we should do to get her "ready" to live with a big dog? Anyway, it does my heart good to know that she's going to have a vet nurse for a forever mommy!

It depends on how old the dog is and if it is used to cats. If the dog is used to cats there will be the normal adjustment period. Kittens and puppies are amazing that way, they will love anyone. If the dog has not been with cats, I would ask how they plan to introduct them. I got my puppy two weeks ago, when the oldest kittens were about 6 wks old and none of them even batted an eye. They were all babies and just wanted to play. The best thing is my puppy thinks she is a cat! What could be better

Awww! What a sweet picture and your puppy and kitty are so cute! She did say that they used to have a cat around the dog at one time but not anymore. She said her dog was great with the cat. I didn't think to ask why they don't have the cat anymore? I was bombarding her with so many questions but I forgot that one.

I think it will be fine if the dog has been around cats before. Little Jada is just adorable! Glad she has a good home to go to!

Yes, they'll have to be carefully introduced gradually to one another. Little Jada won't be the problem, as little kittens tend to fear nothing, and accept everything. It's the doggie that will have the adjustment period, and it will work just fine, if taken slowly and carefully.

She's a cutie-pie!

I don't know that she used any specific way to tell. Little Jada is about twice the size of the rest of the kittens and yet she weighs about the same. When you pick her up you can just feel all the hair. It's very thick around her face. It's thicker than the rest of the kittens and her tail is already "bushy" rather than slick. Hope that helps.

That's how Pudge was. She looked huge, then you'd reach down, and *poof* your finger would sink in two or so inches before you actually touched cat.

Yeah, I learned a lesson in not pushing friendships when we brought Jazz home. I tried to force him and Jada to get along and it backfired on me. Had seperate them (and they were just kittens) for a while and start over slowly. She's a vet's nurse but I don't know how much she knows about introducing pets so I was thinking I would print off some info I've found here to give her when she takes the kitten. I have also recently decided to print off an article I found here about the effects of declawing to give to all of my adopting families.
