Is there a technology to locate a cat?

I'm wondering if there's a special device to locate a cat.

There's microchipping which can prove ownership but I don't think that the microchip technology has reached the point of being able to triangulate the cat's actual location yet...

Microchipping could reach that sort of technology. They choose to avoid it only to keep expenses down to consumers. I'm waiting for the day that the microchips have all medical information included with the cat. The homing device would be last.
