So the worst possible scenario has happened. My male cat got out of the yard yesterday morning. I've been searching for him up and down the streets near me, but I've seen no sign of him. I'm a little worried now because it has been hot and sunny recently, but tonight there are supposed to be thunderstorms and rain for the next few days. I'm assuming he's outside somewhere so I don't know how he'll react to it.

I about brokedown when I couldn't find him, so the people I'm staying with are letting them stay in the garage and not outside (that is if I find my other cat). No, it's not INSIDE, but it's better than outside. He does have a collar and ID on, but I'm afraid that it has possibly come off. I've already contacted the animal shelter and filled out a lost pet report. I'm going to put up fliers tomorrow. I've tried to put out scents he'd recognize and some food, but I haven't seen a trace of him. I'm more afraid he's lost, even if he's not too far away, and he's not able to find his way back. I've also thought maybe he would try to go back to my old apartment, it's not far from here, about a mile, but I'm not sure with him being an indoor cat he'd venture out that far, being scared and all.

Anyway, I've looked up info on finding lost cats, but you guys seem pretty informative, so I thought I'd ask if anyone had any other suggestions or advice.

Oh no, I really hope he comes home soon!!

You can try searching for him in the middle of the night as I have heard there isn't too much going on so they are more likely to be moving around and easier to be noticed.

I have heard that night searches can be productive too.
Be sure to put of favorite treats.
Good luck.

Thanks. I have tried looking late at night (early morning), but it actually just seems more difficult because it's hard to see pretty much everything.

So sorry your little friend went off on his own.
I hope he comes home safe and sound! Maybe he just eloped with some pretty kitty and will be back when the honeymoon is over.

try looking in the most duh obvious spot. when inside cats get out they will often just go to the first hiding place they can find. They are not like dogs and sometimes can be sitting right there watching you call them and not respond.

you are doing all the right things otherwise though.

I hope you find him! good luck!

So while going up and down my street (it's about 11 pm) here, looking for my cat, calling his name, I see about 5 or so cats running around, but none are him. I finally decide to come back home and I stand out in front of my house and just stood there for a minute listening, then my ten year old relative who was walking with me, sees a cat running from the garden next door to the second house down from mine. It's dark so I couldn't see the color completely, but i know my cat and based on its body, run, etc I am 99% sure it's him. I heard no bell though, so I'm assuming his collar is off now. He ran over the neighbor's fence, though and as it's a bit late I didn't want to knock on her door and ask to go in her backyard.. and he was also running so I doubt he'd be that easy to catch. now I don't know if I should just wait outside until I see him possibly come out again, I don't want to miss the chance to get him back. Would he most likely stay around this area until morning? And I don't know why he's running from *me*, I was calling his name, I know he's scared but he's my baby and honestly it hurt my feelings :/. I'm just terrified I missed my chance to get him back

Yes, he's neutered. He got neutered when he was about 5 months old. I haven't seen him (if that was him) around since that night. I did leave food out that night and it was gone in the morning. I'm hoping it was him and not some other cat eating it. I left some food out last night, but it was still there this morning. So, I'm not really sure what to do now

When one of my cats are out overnight I call for them (usually only Bobber) about 5 am. It should be pretty quiet. Try shaking a food container too.
Did you put a litter box outside??

well, i found him tonight. he seems ok, his collar is missing though. i'm quite relieved, i've had a horrible week. not that this is relevant in any way, but i had a horrible/devastating break up with my boyfriend today, so i was feeling even more down than usual, so at least i found my baby and he's making me feel better in that regard. thanks to everyone who offered advice

I'm really relieved to hear you found your kitty but sorry to hear of your break-up. Sending hugs to both you and your kitty.

I'm so glad you found him. Give him lots of hugs and treat him to a microchip and a new collar.
