My kittens turned 5 weeks today. They are eating kitten food and are fully liter trained. One of my kittens makes her mouth to say meow but nothing comes out! She has done this since birth. She did meow 3 times total. Other than that just mouths it. Is this normal? Could something be wrong with her?

I have one that does that and if he does make a sound it's really soft. Personally, I am enjoying it with all the noise from the others! He was the first one to purr at only 2 weeks I think.

I think they are like kids, it just takes some time.

I have a deaf dog that I thought wouldn't bark. But she knows how to yip to get your attention and everything so don't worry yet.

My mother has cats outside that adopted her and whenever they have litters, that is what happens with the kittens, they meow but nothing comes out, so I think that is pretty normal, although the little suckers sure know how to hiss at you till they get to know you!!

Still waiting on Isis to have her babies........

Cats do what is called a "silent meow"...it's quite common but I've never heard of a 5wk kitten doing it...my Donny does it all the time!

My Juby is a silent meower. He only meows audibly when he REALLY wants your attention. Of Jada's current litter, I've noticed the 2 boys doing that too. I'm guessing they'll be quiet like their dad.

My one cat is nine months old and she still does not have a meow. She opens her mouth and at best you can hear a small squeak.

I was going to suggest what the others have said, maybe you've just been blessed with a mute kitty
My Antigone really only meows when its dinner time, but her sister Pandora never shuts up! If she's healthy and doing everything the others are, ie eating, using the litter box, I think she's fine

Your kitten is just fine. It's experiencing with it's vocal cords and learning how to communicate with different intensities of vocalization. It's nothing to be worried about....some cat's just don't meow loudly, just like some humans are more soft-spoken than others.
