Has anything changed? Like anyone being impatient (and possibly physical) with her? Are you using a hand lotion she doesn't like? Try to trace the problem.
Mine does the same thing - but she loves to play chase, so generally her running away means, "C'mon, Mom, come and get me!"
Ginger hates to be petted unless SHE decides it's petting time. She'll never sit still for me unless she initiates it. She's not a lap cat, either, but all the same she is extremely loving - and is always showing me her belly for a quick rub and run!!!
I read something the other day that said to get your cat to "reaquainte" herself with you, you should take alittle tuna and put it in the palm of your hand. when she comes to eat pet her.... do this a few times a day with alittle less tuna everday until she comes with out the food....not sure if it works... just something I read on a different cat site.
Our cat Kitty does the same thing.. shes not a lap cat at all.. There are times she loves to be pet but after 5 mins she goes away. there are other times where she'll lay on my knee but when i pet her she jumps down... soooo. she's that way..
