Hi everyone! I have a kitty who has been pooping outside his litter box. I know a lot of you have dealt with this! I cleaned up the mess and am in the process of retraining him to use his box, and it is going well. However, every so often I see him sniffing around where he pooped and squatting like he is about to do it again. I try and catch him in time and bring him to the litter box!

Can anyone recommend a good strong cat repellant that I can use in that area? It is a capreted area. I need to keep him away as he keeps resoiling the same spot! (I'm having the carpets professionally cleaned next month too)

Thanks!

You're right, you do want to clean that area up and get the ordor out cuz thats what she's sniffing before he goes again.. a couple of things you can try is a Feliway spray, this dont get rid of the ordor, but may help with the cat/kitten from going there again.. a way to clean it is to wash the area with a carbonated water or soapy water, and then rince.. If it keeps happening, you may try applying a misting of vinegar or mouthwash to the spot, both cats find it distastefull. A citrus-based cleaning product might help to cuz i know cats dont like that smell either.... Another way is those sprays you can get from pet stores like Nature's Miricale or something like that... Hope that helps. Also make sure the kitty likes where the litter box is, cuz that can be another thing, sometimes the position of the box can cause the problem and maybe if you have a cover on it, could be too cuz some cats dont like that either...

This is because he can still smell his feces. It is a signal that it is okay to poop there. You don't need a "cat repellant". You need to thoroughly clean the area with detergent, water, and enzyme based cleanser to neutralize the odor.
