Has anyone ever tried this thing!?

It's a vaccumming robot and it is fantastic! My friend let me borrow her's for a few days to try. I had just vaccuumed my carpet and floors on Tuesday night with my regular vaccuum but i decided to give the roomba a try anyway. So I ran it for 60minutes in my living room/family room and it removed enough fine dust, cat hair and other stuff to fill about 2 dryer lint traps!! I was SHOCKED!!! ( i didn't think i was that bad of a housekeeper!). My house smells cleaner, the air feels cleaner and my friend who has it full time said her allergies are gone!!

As soon as i can save up some money I am definitely getting one of these!!

plus you can be on TCS while it vaccuums your house!

I've always wondered how they work - are they really spendy? I suppose it would end up being a new toy for Harley!!

Are they loud? Or pretty quiet?

My mom had one, she used to get perverse pleasure from running when my big baby of a dog was visiting.

I was pretty skeptical of them too....but i'm a totally convert. They are much quieter then a regular vaccuum (a little louder on tile then on carpet). The cats didn't run in a panic when i turned it on and ended up instead watching it and following it around the floor. It cleans wonderfully, and it can do it while you aren't there. I let it run for around an hour on my family room and hallway. It has a little light on top that flashes when it detects a bigger quantity of dirt and then it circles that spot removing the dirt, and then continues on it's path. It cleaned my whole kitchen (weird angles an all) and it got up all the tracked litter!!!!!!

can you tell i'm in love!

Is that one of the ones that's low and flat and has a "schedule" that it vacuums on and it's own docking station??

Edited to add: Hmm, guess I should just check the link! I would love one of these things!

But if you get them from serious you can pay in 24 installments which works out to be....$17/mos!!!!!!

I don't think i could go back to having a house cleaned by a regular vaccuum...i didn't realize it could make the air feel cleaner!!!!!!!

ps: that link was too funny! I almost peed my pants.

That really sounds tempting. I'm not sure they're available here, though I know Kärcher has one on the market.
I was more or less planning on getting a Dyson when one of my vacuums goes, but a robot vacuum would be really cool.

I have a refurbished roomba, the silver one (Roomba Discovery). I got it from Woot.com, a site that sells one item per day. If you want it, you buy it, if they run out of them, too bad. Its pretty funny. If you don't order the item the day they are offering it, too bad! It cost about $150, and came with several accessories.

Anyhow, I just LOVE my roomba. I still use the regular vacuum, but it is great to keep up on things. However, I have kids, so we end up with clutter on the floor which would be bad for the roomba, so sometimes I can't run it till the kids pick up!

It is very helpful in my foster kitty room. It is rather quiet, so doesn't scare the kitties too much. In fact, I have to put the kittens in a carrier, because they are curious about the roomba, and I'm afraid they might get hurt! I'm sure an older cat would be able to get away from it, or would just stay out of its way.

It is funny to watch my dog. She runs out of the room with a regular vac, but with roomba, she waits until it is close to her, then she moves. I tried to show her that it will just bump her and go away, but she still moves! LOL!

I want a scooba floor scrubber!

Woot.com, never heard of it. I did check them out on ebay and i figure i can save about $100+ bucks on the discovery (C$200 with shipping). Fingers and toes crossed. Now that i've tried it i don't think i could do without. I don't have too much clutter, i just have an off-white carpet in the family room that has never looked clean...until now. I think i've convinced my father he wants one, and i'm thinking it would make a great present for my sister...no time to clean with 2 kids under 18 mos.

Here is woot:

It just has various items, generally electronics, different things on different days. I used to check them out daily, but now I'm on a strict budget so I try to stay away! LOL!

I do love my roomba. It goes under dressers. It is good at picking up fur and kitty litter. I use it in my master bathroom to sweep up the litter. Roomba is round, so it doesn't get inside corners good, but it is way better than just waiting until I have time to sweep!

You can do a spot clean, where it just goes in a circle. That is great when my dog is blowing her coat and leaves a fur patch where she naps.

My roomba sits on the floor, on its recharger base. One day, Garfield stepped on it and started it operating! (Its like a dream of mine to have the cats vacuum the floor!) Too bad there was clutter on the floor, so I couldn't let it finish....LOL!

I highly recommend it if you can afford it. I do wish it had a bigger pic-up bin. And I often have to pull the bristle part out because it is full of dog hair, but it cleans out easily.

After our last vacuum cleaner died I vowed my next one would be more durable for dealing with animal fur and have a Hepa filter for my allergies. I watched the ads and bought a Dyson. So many of my friends swore by it so I talked hubby into buying the Animal Dyson. It has lived up to it's reputation beyond my expectations.

I love my Dyson but this sounds like it'd be good for cleaning inbetween vacumings. And as for something that I could set off to go on it's own while I did something else, well heck, I'm all for that!
