Just curious as people seem to think different things.
Thanks! And GO SKITTLES!
I can only give you my experience with it. This was the first time ever that I had an animal that gave birth...and the last.
But, I had no idea about the possibility of the surgery impairing the milk production until someone here asked me when I told of taking her in to be checked and coming home without her. I then called the vet and questioned them about it and they told me no, not to worry about it. When I picked her up a couple hours later, she was still pretty drugged and with it being her first litter, I'd guess confused a bit too. I didn't want to take any chances and went to get some KMR. After an hour or two she finally came around (off the drugs) and allowed both babies to feed with no problem. Prior to that I had to dropper feed one of them because she didn't really go near it much, but did allow the other one to nurse.
Thankfully, there were no problems. Even had I known before hand it would not have stopped me from allowing it because I knew there was something wrong that she hadn't delivered.
I think when the time comes for anyone, they will just know when something is not right. And if not....they can come here like I did and also keep good contact with the vet! Until that time, it is just a waiting game.
