I've got roundworms in the outside cats. My question is: does Imathal dewormer work? The vet in town prescribes it, one dose, telling me it will kill the worms.

I have gotten Strongid as a dewormer from a different vet through the HS for Twitch, Lily, & Ophelia. They told me that the first dose killed the adult worms, & the 2nd dose killed the larvae. So, wouldn't you need a second dose of Imathal?

Sorry, I just want to be sure that I kill those stupid worms!

I would just check with your vet because even though the other medicine took 2 doses this one might be formulated to only require one. You just want to be sure because overdoing the dosage could make your little ones quite sick.

As far as I can tell imathal and strongid have the same ingredient, (pyrantel pamoate), so its super wierd that it would only take one dose.

Call the vet back and ask him for an explanation. It seems impossible that the same drug could become systemic / kill all stages in a different brand name when the same drug in another only kills adult worms in the GI. I would even call a different vet and ask him too.

I thought I was reading correctly that Imathal & strongid contain the same ingredient. I got into the dentist today, so I am going to be near the vet that uses Strongid, so I'll stop in & ask for a 2nd opinion..

The vet that prescibes Imathal does say that it works in one dose. I think I want a second opinion, though. I really want to be sure the worms are dead.
