Is he neutered? If not get him neutered.

Otherwise I think he's just playful and probably is doing that to wake you up so you will play with him. You can get up and play with him, but that will also teach him that if he howls he'll get his way.
If you ignore him, he'll eventually learn that you won't get up and will stop.

Play with him for a good 30 minutes before you go to bed. Maybe feed him a little catnip before bed every so often. Might help get you and him through the night.

Also, check out the behaviours forum here on TCS, I'm sure there are tons of other posts similar to this!!

You better get him neutered NOW or else he will start spraying and it may be hard to get him to stop.

He is probably crying because it is mating season and he can hear all the other felines getting frisky outside!

Do not let him out until he is done if he is an indoor/outdoor cat as you will run the risk of him running away whilst chasing girls or being chased off by a bigger tom cat who doesnt want the competition. Not to mention all the kittens he will be helping creating!

Try feeding him some wet food before bed, it will make him sleepier.

Is he an only cat? Cats are nocturnal by instinct so you have to keep him awake and entertained during the day if you want him to sleep at night.

Maybe he needs a playmate? Is he your only kitty? My youngest of 4, Bella, wakes me up most every night. She's like Lassie. She is extremely vocal and "speaks" for the others (when someone wants in, out, food, etc). She's also very playful and likes a playmate in the wee hours when we want to sleep. I often times have to put her outside of my room and close the door so I can get some shut eye.

Yes, get him neutered!!!! Maybe there's a special clinic with reduced rates in your area?

try this site friendsofanimals.org
you enter in all your info, then they email you a list of participating vets in your area, you call and verify any additional charges, then you can purchase the spay certificate online...I think female cats are $55, males I think $45. Most vets charge $100... I'm in Philly so I'm not too far away from you
...so it can't be that much different in price.

Oh, the other thing, I have to stop playing with LuckyGirl well before bed time...otherwise she's all wired up and keeps us awake running through the house @ 90mph, so much so that I have to get up and take all the toys away and put them in a drawer. So wear her out like 2-3 hrs before you go to bed, so she has at least an hour to settle down and get sleepy from all that playing!
Good Luck!

I think he probably wants to play. Cats are nocturnal so they are up all night until they adjust to your body clock and sleeping habits. Give him some time. And get him neutered ASAP!!

I live in Rochester NY in a 2 bedroom apartment.
Hurry, I waited for the same reason and my boy started peeing all over my house at about that age. It was a nightmare and he is the one who still wakes me up nearly every night by sitting on my chest and licking my face, if I ignore him by pretending to be asleep he bites my nose. lol
Many areas have sliding scale fees for neutering too if your income is low. Good luck

How old is she?

My cats went through a 'teenage' stage where they were moody and not so affectionate.

Try offering her treats and rewards when she is affectionate to you. And get her spayed if she isnt already, that will help
