I don't really have any idea. I have only ever had girl cats. I think it would be sweet if Harley had a girlfriend!!
But you say John wants on of the white ones so it depends on them. And personality too. I would just make sure to get matching personalities. Or wait. Harley gets into a lot doesn't he. I don't know if I would get to cats like him since you would be clenaing up messes every time you walked in the door!

Oh goodness, I can't imagine another Harley - We'd never get any sleep!

Whenever you're ready to add your new baby to your sig... just send me some pics.
Oh believe me, the introductions will be done VERY slowly! I just don't know where I'll be keeping this little one for awhile, Harley thinks he's allowed EVERYWHERE!

Aww, thanks Christine, that means a lot that you'll add another kitty into my sig!

Actually, since he's so dominant I suggest getting another boy. Not true with all girls, but my girls don't appreciate the whoopings they get while playing with my boys. The boys can get rough with each other and they never seem to mind, but the girls always end up screaming...
That way when they play it will be fair. I can't wait till your new baby comes home!

Thank you SO much for your advice! I really appreciate it - I am just super duper worried about him - he's been our baby for about a year now, and he's finally on a good eating schedule, no more peeing problems - and now I'm just worried that if we bring in a new little kitty, he'll start with the peeing again.... oh I hope it doesn't happen that way!

Just make sure he still knows he's top cat! Always greet him first, play with him first, etc...he'll soon realize having a sibling is fun!
You're gonna have a blast!

I can see what you're saying here, and I wanted to get another boy too when we got a friend for Sleeves for this very reason but we fell in love with Nismo and then found out she was a girl. However...when we hear the thud of kitty footsteps running through the house, 9 times out of 10 it's Sleeves being chased by Nismo! She has him running scared all the time and does not take a beating from him

Yeah, there are the cases like that. I wonder if it's when the boy is submissive, that the girls become the aggressor...just a theory. My boys are pretty much all dominant and the girls are "catty" but not as dominant. Smudge is the only girl that no one bothers because she stands up for herself...

I think its super cute - for a boy or girl! I do believe we're gonna try to get another boy - but we'll see what happens - I just am so worried about Harley
yep - that's me - queen of the themed names!

i think personality matters more than gender. try to find a laid-back kitten...wait a minute, there's no such thing!
seriously, if one of the white ones is more passive than the other, the more passive one might be a better choice.

You must be excited! As far as gender is concerned: I just read a German study on the subject of "pairing" cats, and its conclusion was that male & male worked slightly better than male & female, and both were better than female & female.

Looking at the cats here, I see that so many members have 2 or 3 females who get along splendidly, so I'd have to conclude that it depends on the cats' personalities, and not so much on gender.

Thanks everyone for your help, it really means a lot!

We're just going to have to base it all on personality and not gender so much

I know that Harley will be okay with his playmate - and Im sure he'll be just happy to know that he'll have someone to always play with when we're gone!

Yes, he is

And it fits him wonderfully - he's loud and fast and always gets into trouble
