I was wondering my cat always make a digging action around his food bowl before and after he eats, is that normal.

Yes it's normal. Lilly does it with her wet food, too. She paws at the carpet square her food dishes are on, and at the wall- trying to get it to fall down on the dish!

It's an instinctual thing... they're "covering" their food so no one else will be able to find it & eat it. Little do they know us humans aren't rushing to take their food from them- silly kitties!

That's interesting Curly, thanks! I've always wondered what Fluffy was thinking when he'd nearly chip the paint on the walls routinely after meals.

He does it for quite a long time after he eats his favorite meals so...that makes lots of sense! I love cats

No problem! Lilly usually does it until I tell her it's okay and she can stop.

As you said, just another reason to love them!

My cat Reilly does that all the time too, and it's very normal. Just be careful that you don't leave your favourite t-shirt on the floor so kitty can use it to cover his food! (Reilly you bad kitty!!

I think it's more to cover up the scent of uneaten food from predators than it is to make sure no one else eats it... I can't remember where I read that though....LOL

Yes, that is what I've read that the big cats, such as cougars & bobcats do. JC does that around food that he DOESN'T like, though - maybe his motives are a lot more obvious
