no we are not..she is 5 years old and we thought she would never have kittens so when this litter is 6 weeks old we are getting her spayed. the weirdest thing though, before she had her first kitten, she was following spike around the house. she didn't settle down to have the kitten until i had them in the same room and she was able to see my kitten. she just had #2

Good to know that you have a plan to have mom spayed. Ok..now I remember, you have mom and you have a little kitten. So glad everything is going well so far....just keep an eye on Spike...especially if he isn't neutered and is 5 months or older. We wouldn't want Spike to become a daddy at this age.

Oh..that's great that little spike is neutered...believe me, he will forgive you.

Are you talking about blood during labor??

yeah...she had #4 almost an hour ago and there is still alot of blood. i can't tell if she is done or not, she still looks like she is trying to push out another one, she is on her side with her legs spread and her back paws are shaking. the vet said she was having 6 but he wasn't 100% sure. how can you tell if she is done?

There was a lot of blood when Jada gave birth too. I knew she was done when she fell asleep. LOL Her last one was still attached to the placenta which was still inside of her at that point so I had to assist. But I think you'll know when she's done...... she'll be extremely tired and resting.

that's what she is doing now. i moved her to a bigger basket, seeming that she chose to have her kittens in a cardboard box (she's a funny cat) and she is "resting"(i would say she is sleeping, but she is purring so loud) while her 4 little babies all with no tails, are nursing. she still has blood around her vaginal area, should i clean that or let her do that? also two of the kittens still have the cord attached, is that normal? the afterbirth is gone, just the cord is left.

The cords will dry up and fall off when they're ready.
Congrats!

I would love to see pics, I've never seen tailless kittens before

sorry that i was off for so long, my baby spike was getting really jealous so i laid down with him for a while, not to mention i too am pregnant. minxie is doing fine, we have 4 little kitties, the 1st one looks like a really dark gray tabby, #2 is black and white(like my spike, i think i'm gonna keep him/her), #3 looks like an orange tabby, and #4 is a gray tabby. i have pics already, i just have to wait for my roommate to get home so he can upload them for me. i will post them tomorrow.

when should she start to want to eat and drink again? i put a bowl of water in the basket with her and she looked at it and went right back to cleaning her kittens.

congratulations to you and your precious new kittens

My cat had kittens three weeks ago,she had them at eight thirty in the morning and did not really eat properley until later that evening.
She was really tired and just slept and nursed the kittens for most of the first day.
Congratulations again,it is a lovely experience isnt it?

she ate an entire can of food by herself last night and had some milk. she didn't sleep much at all since she has had them. we all took turns checking on her last night and she was either laying there purring or cleaning herslef or one of the babies. one side effect i wasn't counting on was my kitty spike getting jealous and mad at me. he got over it last night when it was bed time and he curled up next to me. as soon as i get the pics uploaded i will post them so everyone can see the tailess babies.

Just remember...for those of you who loved the experience, rescues and shelters are always looking for people willing to foster pregnant cats. Just something to consider after you have spayed your cat.
