I really did it today
.. Hubby took me and the kids out to eat for Mothers day at my favorite place to eat. Knowing it would be really busy being Mothers day, we where in a hurry to try and be a little early for the dinner time rush. Half way there the gas light comes on. We pull into a gas station the gas is higher then most places but we need gas.Hubby hands me a $5.00 and say we will get $5.00 then stop in the town where we are going to and pay less and then fill it up. Then changes his mind and says lets just get $20.00. Mean while I'm looking at the pumps it says please pre pay before pumping. I say we have to pre-pay first as hes standing there starting to try and pump it. We are in a rush I run in and say I'm geting $20.00 and quickly set the $20.00 on the counterand hurry back out.
Well after we have a great meal. The waitress gives us the check. I look at hubby aftera few minutes he hasn't put the money in the check thingie. I say pay so we can go. This is the good part. he says you have the change pay with that. I look at him HUH change??? He says change from the gas. I said we got $20.00 theres no change! He said of course there is I gave you a $100.00 bill. I thought he was joking! I said no way . And he says yes I did. I then knew he wasn't joking. OH NO my stomach sunk.. I said I didn't get change . I thought you gave me a $20.00. I won't repeat what he said next. But I'll give a hint *%$**##***!!!!@$&**!!
So I said you sure you gave me a $100.00 and he said I'm very sure I had a $100.00 and a $5.00 nothing else in my wallet and he then opened his wallet and showed me the $5.00. I paid with my trusty credit card and hurried out. Called the gas station with my cell phone. Well the lady said hang on I will ask the check out girl. She comes back and says the girl says she has only been given 1 $100.00 bill and that was hours ago. All I can tell you to do is call back tomorrow around 10:30 and talk with the assistant manager he will by then have chcked out the days receipts. And if you did give a $100.00 and not get your change then the drawer will be over by $80.00 and he will give you your change.
Well I'm 100% sure I did give her a $100.00 bill. She says no ,so the $80.00 must of went in her pocket! I might as well kiss that $80.00 good bye
. Now I'm in the dog house on mothers day!! Sobsssss

That royally sucks. I would go ahead and call back anyway just to see if there's absolutely any way to remedy the situation.

I'm so sorry to hear about this!

Did you get your $80 back?

How can people be so rude and not tell you that you overpaid them by $80?! I'd feel so guilty taking someones money like that!

:hugs to you!

No money back the girl claims she doesn't recall anyone giving her a $100.00 bill. When they did the receipts for the day it did not come out $80.00 over. So I'm positive or hubby is that I did give her a $100.00 because thats all he had in his wallet. So she must of pocketed the $80..00!

That same thing happened to me too at a gas station. I accidentally left over $100 cash on the counter, turned my back to walk out and remembered it. Sure enough the attendants just played stupid, "We didn't see a stack of money there, you must be mistaken."

Under the cats, mostly.
That really really sucks - I'd have been going absolutely crazy and insisting that the girl turn out all her pockets and her bags on the spot.

Seriously that's awful, who would do that?
People are brutal sometimes. Don't blame yourself though, it was an honest mistake.

OH NO!
That is just terrible. I am so sorry this happened on Mother's Day of all days. I can imagine how you felt the second you realized and to make it worse hubby did at the same time

I haven't had that exact situation happen, but sort of similar. I was working in a gas station when I was 18 or so. It was around the time the newly designed $20 bills came out. Someone paid me with a $20 and I thought it was a $100. I gave them their change and stuck the bill under the register tray where we were supposed to put large bills. When it came time to count my drawer down I was in tears. I didn't get into a huge amount of trouble thankfully. My manager just told me to pay closer attention next time.

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I have done SO many things like that... I swear I'm a smart girl, but I get in such a panick over things. Once I went through Dunkin Donuts, gave them $100, thought they gave the change with the bag & stuff, and drove off...to the Jersey Shore. Then we're at the toll booths and I'm like where's the $$ he says you have, umm no, I gave it to you? No you didn't...Lots of profanity later, and we're searching the carpets and seats of our car for quarters to get off the turnpike!!! Funny now, not so funny then!

Forgot to tell you, I am a block from the Dunkin Donuts, and they know me there, it's quite embarassing when they all come over to say hi to me...too many lattes...but I did get my $ back...they put it in an envelope for me to p/u next week.

That is terrible for you. Another reason I love Canadian money - the colours are unique to each bill so it's very obvious what the denomination of each bill is by a quick look.
