Litter #1 will be 5 wks tomorrow and they are eating 2nd step mixed with wet food like crazy. Of course that means introducing the litter box because mom won't clean up after them as much once solids are started. I don't know if I can handle one more litter box.

Litter #2 is completely weaned at 7 wks. CeCe seems to think litter #1 is hers too and even nursed my puppy but not her own kittens. I think she is a little confused but Adina welcomes the help.

It's exciting to see them make new steps toward being "big kitties" but sad at the same time. They grow so fast

I start introducing solid foods at 5 weeks and that includes boiled plain chicken shredded for them.

They will still nurse and eat solids at that age.

Goldenkitty, did you also introduce the litter box? I am finding poo in the nest that is how I know the mom is not cleaning up anymore.

Yep - in fact whether they were rex kittens or the barn kittens, they had the litter box there from the start. I usually use a shallow rectangle pie tin/pan for them to use. Something not very deep and not too much litter.

They kinda watch mom and start to use it. But for a few weeks they will continue to go outside the box and that's why they are kept on easy to clean floors, like the bathroom. I would pick up the poop and put a piece or two in the litter box for them to get the idea.
