Hi, I have just sent my little Tippie back to visit her boyfriend at the breeder for another try. She lost her last babies around 5 weeks. The vet has given her a clean bill of health, and she was in heat 2 weeks ago, so she should be coming on to her next one (she is an every 2 week girl) My question is, is she appealing to the male even if she isnt in heat yet? And can she get pregnant if she lets him mate with her? I thought they did not ovulate unless they were in heat, and were stimulated by the male. I miss her too much when she is gone and would like her to come home asap.

They are induced ovulators. Yes she can get prego when not in heat and males could care less if she is in heat or not

What kind of cats do you breed?

Thank you for the information....hopefully she will be "in the mood" and let him have his way with her!

As Jen mentioned, cats are induced ovulators. The act of breeding itself is what causes ovulation. So, if the stud can catch her, he will mate her.

However, I am of the opinion that unless she is willing (in estrus), she should not be placed in with the stud as she may be injured trying to fend him off. I would wait to put her in with him until she is showing signs of a strong estrus and is willing.

Everyone has different ways of doing things, but that's how I would do it.

Induced ovulators... could that have been how Nina got pregnant when I had no idea she was even in heat?

Thank you for the info...yes maybe some catnip..lol. She gets along great with her mate, even when not in heat so I don't know how she would react to him. She doesnt get to see him all that much as he lives 2 hours away..(long distance romance) I just would like her home soon as we miss her when she isnt here.
