Senseless killing of an ostrich

Hmm... I think not so much the sherriff ought to be reprimanded, but whoever let their ostrich get out like that. Here we have lots of accidents with deer; and ostriches are just as dangerous to drivers (except for the antlers)... and naturally the ostrich wouldn't survive a collision either.

Maybe it could've been an honest mistake--a deteriorating fence that went unseen, or a smart bird that opened a gate. But if it was preventable, I'd be more angry at the owner than the sherriff (who was just trying to prevent a tragic collision, and not thinking quickly enough).

thats a bit stupid. So what if they had to close the road so they could catch it?! The animal didn't deserve to die just because it wandered there.
