Hi,
Sorry if this sounds like a really basic question but i've only ever had adult cats in the past and my new kitten will be coming home in two weeks time. I've read the sticky about introducing her to my resident cat and will be keeping them seperate for at least the first week. My concern is about leaving her alone over night. The best room for her is the kitchen because it's nice and warm and Tabitha can't open that door. If i try to shut my bedroom door she scratches at it until she can get in. Also i sleep on a futon, i.e close to the floor and i don't want to risk the kitten being squashed by me in my sleep! Will she be ok on her own for 8 or 9 hours over night or will this be too distressing? She'll have the ticking clock and hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Will that be enough?
thanks
yorkie

I think that if you shut the new kitten in your bedroom, Tabitha will be very upset. Better to let the new kitten be alone for a few nights, until she and Tabitha get used to each other.

I would make her a bed in the kitchen inside a carrier/kennel or box partially covered with a towel or small blanket, somewhere she can feel hidden. The clock and the bottle will help too. For my kittens, they seemed to feel most secure on thier first nights if they had a place to hide when they slept.

thanks. that's a good idea about a covered bed. apparantly at the moment she is in her owners bedroom and keeps creeping under the covers every night, but i thrash around like mad in bed so the bedroom is a definate no no.
So i have two weeks to choose a name for her. At the moment she's called Roley Moley because mum chose to give birth on the back of the sofa whilst her owner was asleep on it. She woke up to the feeling of a new born kitten in her lap. She'd rolled down the sofa onto her.
