We've had Curtis for a little over 2 months now. He's a siamese mix. I have an older cat, Lucky. Every single time he sees her, he jumps on her back and she just goes hissing like crazy. I'm afraid that it will really start to affect her. Is there ANYTHING we can do or will we have to give him up?

Curtis is looking for your older cat to be a playmate...which is why we don't typically advise bringing a young kitten into a home as a companion for an older cat. You may want to get Curtis a playmate that is around his own age.

i had the same problem with Cable when she first came to us...getting Java was a relief to Pixel because Cable & Java played together, & then Pixel could enjoy snuggling with Cable. kittens are just so energetic & playful - older cats are more inclined to lie around! if you're not up to another kitten, you might consider just a young cat, like around 1 year old - they're still very energetic at that age!

I have a 12 yr old cat and just got a kitten. I find that if I play with my kitten as much as I can she leaves the older cat alone. I've got toys everywhere for her and the older cat doesn't get harrassed so much anymore. good luck.

I have a similar situation, although it's not really a problem as my older cat is coping well with the new kitten - he seems to enjoy playing with him most of the time and he always wins the 'fights' as he's twice the size and weighs about 3 times as much
He does sometimes get a bit fed up with always being pounced on though (and having his tail pulled especially) and gives kitty a hiss and a growl for being so impudent. I just try to distract the kitten with toys and games so that Jaffa can have a time out and it works pretty well. It's in their nature for kittens to want to play with everything that moves! Time will help solve this problem if you can manage the situation in the meantime and give your older cat a bit of a breather from time to time. Perhaps you can set aside a room which only your older cat is allowed to use? She then has somewhere she can go to get away from your kitten. If it gets really bad you might just have to separate them until your kitten is a bit older.
